This may include the date and time of visits, pages viewed, time spent on the site, IP address, and approximate location (city and country). How do we use the information we collect? Anonymous visitors to public pages on our site may be shown ads served by third-party advertising providers. These providers may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads based on your interests and prior browsing behavior. This is limited to non-logged-in visitors only. For users in the European Union, advertising is only shown with your explicit consent. You can opt out of interest-based advertising at any time by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page or by adjusting your browser's cookie settings. CMI Marketing, Inc., d/b/a Raptive (“Raptive”) is a service provider of this Site for the purposes of placing advertising on the Site, and Raptive will collect and use certain data for advertising purposes. To learn more about Raptive’s data usage, click here: https://raptive.com/creator-advertising-privacy-statement/ A full list of authorized programmatic partners participating in ad auctions on our behalf is available in our ads.txt file. Those partners operate under their own privacy policies. Analytics and Tracking We use Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) to collect aggregated, non-personally-identifiable information about how visitors use our site. This data helps us understand traffic patterns and improve the site experience. We do not use analytics data to personally identify individual users. We do not track users across third-party websites or apps for commercial purposes. We do not cross-reference your eNotes data with data from other platforms. Cookies Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help us operate the website, remember your login session, and understand how the site is used. Types of cookies we use: Essential cookies — required for login, account access, and purchases. Cannot be disabled without breaking core site functionality. Analytics cookies — used to collect aggregated, anonymized data about site usage via Google Analytics. These can be blocked via your browser settings, though this does not affect core site functionality. Advertising cookies — used by third-party ad providers for non-logged-in visitors only. You can opt out via the Network Advertising Initiative or your browser settings. You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in. How do we protect your information? We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data. These include: SSL/TLS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our servers Encrypted storage of sensitive data such as passwords in our database using bcrypt Limiting internal access to personal data to staff who need it to operate the service We do not store credit card information. Payment processing is handled by third-party processors who are contractually prohibited from using your data for any other purpose. No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to maintaining industry-standard safeguards and will notify affected users in the event of a data breach as required by law. Student and School Data (FERPA) eNotes is committed to complying with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and applicable state student privacy laws. If eNotes is used by a school or district and receives student data in connection with that use: We use student data only for the educational purposes for which it was provided. We do not sell student data. We do not use student data to serve targeted advertising to students. We do not build profiles on students for commercial purposes. Student users with school-issued accounts are never shown third-party advertisements. For questions about student data, please contact us at support@enotes.com. Google Classroom Integration (optional) Teachers who want to align eNotes with a Google Classroom course can optionally connect their Google account to eNotes. Doing so authorizes eNotes to read — on the teacher's behalf, via Google's standard OAuth 2.0 flow — the following data from Google Classroom: The list of Google Classroom courses where the teacher is an instructor. The roster of any course the teacher chooses to link to eNotes, including each member's full name and email address. We use this data only to associate eNotes activity with the correct student account on the eNotes side. We do not post anything back to Google Classroom and we do not modify any Google Classroom data. eNotes' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, we do not: Sell Google Classroom data. Use Google Classroom data for advertising. Transfer Google Classroom data to third parties, except as required by law or with the user's explicit consent. Allow humans to read Google Classroom data, except (a) with the teacher's affirmative consent, (b) for security purposes (such as investigating abuse), (c) to comply with applicable law, or (d) where the data has been aggregated and anonymized and is used for internal operations. You can revoke eNotes' access to your Google Classroom data at any time at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions. Revocation immediately stops eNotes from making future Classroom API calls on your behalf. The roster snapshot eNotes has already pulled remains in our database until you ask us to delete it (see support@enotes.com). Children's Privacy (COPPA) eNotes is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
