Summaries
Kofi Annan, who is the Secretary General of the United Nations sent someone to Taliban Afghanistan, during 1998 to talk about important issues . At this time, the Taliban had just taken over Afghanistan, and imposed harsh laws against women, and the people of Afghanistan. This person that was sent happened to be a woman, who in Afghanistan doesn't have equal rights, and could have been killed. The talks were over things such as human rights, narcotics, and violence among other things. If the woman would have been killed, America, and other countries could have possibly entered Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban at that time, and could have gotten rid of the Taliban, who were allowing terrorists to stay inside their country, thus could have prevented the September 11th, Terrorists attacks

Taliban Says Bin Laden Is Gone
By PHILIP SHENON
Osama Bin Laden, currently the most wanted in the world for terrorist bombings of American Embassies, has apparently left the Taliban controlled Afghanistan according to Abdul Hakeem Mujahid, who has said ''He decided himself to leave. He is not in the area of control of the Taliban.'' and ''We do not know where he is,'. This was pre-9/11, and Osama was harbored in Afghanistan, and just left, which was sort of suspicious to the World. If Osama Bin Laden was reprimanded at that time, possibly there would have been no 9/11 terrorist attacks.

By RAYMOND BONNER
The Guerrilla group known as the Taliban who currently control Afghanistan, have pledged to destroy any poppy crops, and to get rid of heroin labs, within 1 year. This comes to some as impossible and others see it as a step in the right direction. The poppies are a main source of income to the poor farmers of Afghanistan, and eradicating them would cause them to grow things such as onions, which bring less money to the farmers. Poppies are used to create drugs such as Opium, Heroin, Codeine, and other highly addictive opiates.
