[16:59] Flynn: Silver and Kamden haven't played much at all lately, Petra has pretty much given up, Melanie logs in maybe once a week, and we've had maybe a dozen people play for awhile, see how ugly the players could be, and decide to leave
[17:00] Flynn: Crassus hasn't gone YET, and neither has Gumshoe! Give it time and they will be though =/
[17:00] Flynn: heh, actually I'm counting the Clan members who thought the shard was just too ugly to stay, and I'm coming up with more than a dozen over the past year =(
[17:01] Atticus: could be a good group to run [new] (assuming you would be in charge). The one problem I would see, and it's something that i wanted to avoid, is that that particular transition wont shake any of the drama surrounding me these days.
[17:02] Flynn: I think I'm a bad choice to be in charge of NEW, drama seems to follow me everywhere =P
[17:02] Atticus: plus side for them would be you DO get to see a lot of the softer side of UO, as 95% of the newbies are really appreciative and follow the rules, and don't make things difficult for the [companion]s
[17:03] Atticus: well, that is true. But, even with the drama surrounding me, the players have been pretty good about leaving [new] alone.
[17:04] Atticus: just something to think about.
[17:04] Flynn: I'll give it some thought
[17:04] Atticus: the stone is a little full atm since i havn't been clearing it daily, but a regular 2 week old group holds about 150 members atm.
[17:04] Atticus: i think there's 260 on the stone right now.
[17:05] Atticus: but, I wont lie, it is a LOT of work to run that guild, so don't overlook that part.
[17:05] Flynn: That's pretty impressive. I have to tell you up front though, that in my years and years of playing UO, I've NEVER been in a guild with anybody but real life friends, I don't have the faintest idea how a guild is supposed to be run, I'm not familiar with how a guildstone works, and I only have crafters on my account and have never PvPed, and don't PvM on Angel Island. Those are all BIG drawbacks
[17:07] Atticus: I've played a thief or a PK my entire UO career. My role as the GM of [new] was more or less to administrate it and keep the beasts at bay by sort of keeping the community loyal to the idea of the guild.
[17:08] Flynn: I don't mind the work involved, and my work schedule leaves me lots of free time at unusual hours, it's the lack of knowledge that scares me
[17:08] Atticus: by keeping them posted on what we're doing, and keeping up with complaints. Those are the KEY factors to actually running it, and in those regards you have to be a complete hard-ass about it.
[17:09] Atticus: hunts and stuff ARE very important, but not so much for running it. Running it takes diplomacy, making it make an impact takes a good team of [companion]s to take them hunting and keep them busy
[17:09] Flynn: I'll have to give it some thought. I'd hate to see NEW fold, and there aren't too many choices for decent human beings to take over... but... I seriously think I'd be in over my head.
[17:10] Atticus: ok, not trying to push it on you or anything, just letting you know what it entails.
[17:11] Flynn: I'll give it some serious thought, talk it over with guildmates who may be willing to help (every single guildmate is a real life friend and/or housemate), and see what I can come up with. I still hate the thought of losing you =( EVERY decent human on the shard thinks you got a raw deal
[17:14] Atticus: well, it's not the playerbase that drove me away, tbh. I think I'm pretty thick skinned. It's a matter of my time and how i'm spending it. I like to help out, but I also like to succeed and make an impact, and I can't do that with my hands tied.
[17:14] Atticus: You know I actually learned HTML and CSS and designed an external website for all AI information to be organized on, instead of scattering it throughout the forums?
[17:15] Atticus: That's just one of many projects I took on myself that were denied, that I couldn't explain why.

[17:16] Atticus: he's pretty good about events, actually. The reason you havn't seen any since Xmas is because I was working on a very very big one.
[17:17] Atticus: wanted to get everything mapped out and ready to go so there could be some regularity to the events... the one i'm talking bout now, the proposal alone was about 20 pages.

[14:46] Atticus: that was the new player system that was announced a few months back when the newbie area opened

[14:46] Atticus: it's really a good system, and has a lot of potential. but it takes a good team of active people to make it work

[14:48] Flynn: I'm not entirely clear on what my duties would be. Clearing the guildstone of names that shouldn't be there anymore? Answering questions? Providing basic equipment? (I have no idea what kinds of things you gave them for training and such...). Friending them to the NEW house (don't you get looted that way?)

[14:56] Atticus: you have to have a lot of active [companion]s or some other outside help to keep the newbies interested and busy so they arn't just in and out
[14:56] Flynn: But... either I take it over or it's going to die out altogether, and I don't want that to happen
[14:56] Atticus: once you get a good solid group in the guild that are all active at once, the roster of active members accumulates
[14:57] Atticus: well, that might not be a bad thing.
[14:57] Flynn: Also, is there a post somewhere detailing what they can and can't do?

[14:57] Atticus: like i said before, i like adam, but i think people need to stop going over and beyond to do things to make things work to sort of force him into doing things himself and expanding

And when I wanted a picture, they'd host it, then send me the link all typed out with the [img] stuff already around it.
