THE PROJECT: Put together a Newsbook of stories or articles that describe the current situation in the Middle East. The goal is to educate the viewer on conflicts and/or trends that are occurring presently in the region and to offer insight on how these situations might be handled in the future.
Assemble your Newsbook in the following order. Your project must include ALL of the following:
1) A 1-1½ page history on the Middle East to provide readers with ALL the background needed to understand the events in the various articles. You are to do research using the textbook, internet and other books.
2) A timeline of historical event that shaped the Middle East. These do NOT include the current events in your article. Begin in 1949.
3) 15 articles with SUMMARIES written NEXT to your current event. Include WHO the article is about; any TITLES of LEADERS; WHAT happened; WHY it’s important; an WHO it could affect. Cut out your articles and display them with the SUMMARY. Complete sentences!
4) Another timeline of the current events your articles describe.
5) Include a MAP of the Middle East that shows the view where each event in your articles took place. MARK on the map the location of your event.
6) 10 Pictures: CURRENT LEADERS OF MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRIES, correctly spelled names and titles. Try to choose leaders of countries that are mentioned in your articles.
7) A 1-1 ½ page “OPINION ARTICLE” written by yourself. This will summarize all of your articles and explain how the events might affect the entire world and specifically the United States. Explain your views on the causes of the problems and possible solutions. Back up your thoughts with facts and show your intelligence!
