I like to include a new encryption algorithm for files in python.The program will be
i.a function which can be called with a file name (source and destination) as arguments. The function returns the secret pass key to the file.
ii.a function to decode with 3 arguments one being pass key.
I am Anoop Thomas Mathew.(19,Male,2nd Year B Tech. Computer Science student.)
Objective: I would like to write a module which will be a part of the standard library and is used to encrypt files faster, safer and of course easier.
::An encrypter within a programming language,it's bang I think.
How is it done???
As of any encryption algorithm, source file is encrypted and will give a pass key by default. I have ideas about encryption algorithm, which if you like to share , I will.
I am thinking of standardizing the file encryption.
Some standard algorithm with further optimization for speed and security has to be used as it is to be incorporated in python standard library.
A module will have to be build around so as to ensure the fully working algorithm.I think the code must be 5-6 Kb + documentation.
how will the solution look like???
ENCRYPT(source file,destination file,[passkey])
DECRYPT(source file,destination file,passkey)
I thought in a direction like this so that python will remain as the most secure programming language.
The reasons I put in front of you to select me to your project are:
1. I believe that I have that capacity of being patient, work on the system continuously (up to 16 hours a day continuous).
2. I have really strong determination in doing things,especially in correct time.(not joking, after all this is not the place for joking)
3. I know the following languages well: c,c++,java(certified)
and is aware of: python,c#,perl(self study)
NB:well doesn't means I am a veteran in it,but know at my level(19 year old boy)-but is willing to study to any level to complete some jobs.
4. I really support free software movement.
5. I've done small projects individually like file encoder and decoder using specific algorithm,a benchmarking software and more.
6. I'm doing this for my pleasure not for money(really).Because to wok for a company like your's is much prestigious to me.
7. I think i have the capacity to think DIFFERENT(imaginative).
8. I am 100% open minded.You can scold me for a reason which I made a mistake.
9.I'm having 3 months semester gap from May 1 to July 30.When I could focus completely on the project.
10. I am always connected to Internet.
11. At last but not least, I am 100% DEDICATED to the work I do.

Q.Which algorithm are you planning on implementing?
I have mented an algorithm on my own.We would discuss about that in th later part whether to implement this one or some algorithms which are used now a days.
Q.Will this be in Python or a C extension module?
As far as I think it would be a PYTHON alone module.
Q.What need does this fill?
I will explain it to you with an example.
Just think a programmer who have no access to database have to add a few user names and passwords. He will have to rely on files and for security he will have to

Of course the python programming community.
Q.Why are the current solutions unacceptable/insufficient?
There is no such direct file encryption functions in any language till now.
Q.What kind of time line do you anticipate for your project?
May 1 to July 30, 3 months.

Phase I :Data collection and analysis(1 week)
Phase II :Write a module for the concerned encoding and decoding functions.(4 week)
Phase III :Include them into the python import module and check for errors.(1 week)
Phase IV :Bug Fixes,Optimization(C programming if required) and Documentation(4 weeks)
Emergency :1 week.

NB:A average is taken into account.

Q.What are your specific deliverables?
A module full of file encoding and decoding algorithm implementations.
Q.Which release of Python are you targeting (2.6 or 3.0)?
i expect this to be released along with 2.6 as it is not a crucial breakthrough, but a minor enhancement.
Q.What about existing Zipfile module?
It is sophisticated for compression,this module focus only on pure encryption. So
i.This will be more reliable than Zipfile module encryption.
ii.More faster.
iii.More easier for programmer as encryption is just a function call away.
