Although my project originally started out with counting the number of dots on a domino, it will evolve into a more complicated program. The program will be programmed to count the number of cards within an image and work out the value of each card. With the internet becoming home to more and more services there are many online games now available. Many of these games use playing cards and similar objects. The major card games are blackjack, poker and solitaire. Black jack and poker are played a great deal online and often for large sums of money. The ability to track, which cards are in play could be very useful for these companies and the players. These algorithms are also used on television where the player will place his cards within a box on a glass table so they can be read and then used for analysis. These algorithms are used to work out what cards have been played and work out which user has the highest chance of winning from the cards remaining. Card detection and analysis could also be used to improve performance in the game black jack. The method of card counting is a largely debated topic and although not illegal casino’s don’t encourage its use and generally frown upon it. This is due to the card counting algorithms, improving the odds of the player.
