I am different from the other nominees because I love leaving my comfort zone to challenge the person I am and the beliefs I possess. During my sophomore year in high school I moved to Sweden to attend an international school for four weeks. There I learned how to listen to others, to respect their beliefs, and to compromise no matter where we came from or how different our cultures are. While having lunch with a special ed. student once a week during 11th grade, I realized what it feels like to be scorned by others in my age group who fear those different than themselves. While this year, my family and I left our comfort zone by inviting a student from Germany to live with us for ten months. These experiences have all broadened my horizons and allowed me to be a more accepting and compassionate human being.
