DESCRIPTION
===========
The idea is to make easy to the user of the konqueror web browser to retrieve, administrate and store relevant information about the visited web pages and at the same time being non-intrusive and user-friendly. So this are the main features / deliverables:
* A place can be a visited page, a bookmark or a page in a saved konqueror session.
* A place is an URL with some semantics attached, like a rating, a list of tags, the title and of course the URL of the page.
* Those places will be stored in akonadi and they will be integrated in konqueror so that when you start typing in the location bar, it will directly do a live search (using nepomuk) in the akondi database and list the relevant "places" in the drop-down list.
* As it was already mentioned, bookmarks will be stored as of places. The bookmarks menu, bookmarks editor and lateral bookmarks navigational bar (lateral konqi panel) will get a redesign.
* To add/remove current page to bookmarks, it will be as easy as hitting over a star that will appear in the right side of the location bar, a concept brought from Firefox 3.
* A session manager for konqueror would be added so that it will allow you to save currently opened windows and tabs as a session, and also to restore sessions saved previously. It will save periodically current session (like kmail, firefox, opera, etc do already) to disk, to be able to restore the session if konqueror crashes.
* A Kross API will be created to be able to backup and restore all the places stored in Akonadi in the web, in sites like del.ici.us, foxmarks or google bookmarks service. At least one sample plugin will be created for this interface. And new plugins will be available to be downloaded from KHotNewStuff.
TIMELINE
========
* April 14 (and even before that date):
I will start working on session management, as it is a planned feature (see http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title=Schedules/KDE4/4.1_Feature_Plan#kdebase-apps) for KDE 4.1 and I want to get it done as fast as possible. I will also start learning as much as possible about akonadi, nepomuk and kross (I've already started reading about those technologies), and get in touch with its developers.
* May 19 (KDE 4.1 Hard Feature Freeze)
A working version of session management should be already in trunk, so that it gets in KDE 4.1. It won't be feature complete (no need yet to support kross scripting in the session management code as it will change for KDE 4.2 as support for nepomuk and akonadi will be added later) but it will be a first step, and users will certainly like it.
Also, work towards support for akonadi storage of bookmarks and visited pages should have started already. The plan of how to store all the semantic information in akonadi should be already done.
* July 7 (Mentors and students can begin submitting mid-term evaluations):
Places (visited pages, bookmarks, sessions) are already being stored in akonadi and I should be already working hard in the redesign of bookmarks menu, bookmarks editor and bookmarks navigational panel. Support for kross in session management started. The fancy star in the location bar in which when you click the URL is added/removed to bookmarks should already be in place. The live nepomuk search in places when typing in the location bar should be mostly working.
* August 11 (Suggested pencil down date):
Life is good, everything should be done, summer holidays time begins for me =).
ABOUT ME
========
My name is Eduardo Robles Elvira (Edulix is my nickname), I'm 21 years old and I am studying 4º course student of Computer Science in University of Seville (Andalusia, Spain). I started using Linux as my main SO when I was 15.
I started last year working in Konqueror developing a patch to support undoing of closed tabs, a feature merged in trunk which comes already with KDE 4.0. I've got a SVN account in KDE and I've been actively using it in different places of KDE. I've recently committed some bugfixes to Kate and Dolphin for the KDE 4.0 branch, and I actively collaborate to improve konqueror, specially I'm used to work with David Faure, who has helped me much in this regard. Last week - easter - I've ben busy adding support to undo closed windows in Konqueror. I have a good knowledge of C++, Qt and of konqueror code base in general. And be sure that as I've been always doing, I will work towards integrating all the code I develop
in this project inside konqueror. Session management is already in the planned featured list for Konqueror 4.1 ;-).
I plan to work hard on this project, and I will spend 25 hours a week on it on average, because I want konqueror to suceed =). After working on this project, with the knowledge gained about Kross I plan adding Kross scripting support all over Konqueror, and certainly working in KDE and specially Konqueror.
