At some point, everyone tends to encounter some strange dark little corner of music they've never even thought possible until it smacks them in the face. It seems that, like math or science, some people enjoy expanding a universe of ideas by really pushing the limits. Though it is not likely their endeavor will ever make them famous in any "mainstream" sort of way, their willingness to do something at the very least interesting often earns them credit within a generally small community of listeners and future scholars of progressive musical thinking.
In this particular case, I'm going to be discussing the "Zeuhl" genre, a little-known subgenre of progressive rock. Even if you don't like progressive rock, the story of Zeuhl is still relevant to all tastes and genres as it shines a light on a group of people willing to do something musically adventurous without likely financial reward. Though experimentation with music is undoubtedly nothing too strange in a musical world that has changed so much over the past couple centuries, Zeuhl is clearly a duck-billed platypus of music.
