'string.sub' in a nutshell...
string.sub("message",3,6)
will return...
"ssag"
You'll notice it returns the 3rd through 6th character of "message". That's because it was told to start at the 3rd character and end at the 6th character.
Then...
string.sub("message",4)
will return...
"sage"
Because it was told only to start at the 4th character, it will start at the 4th, and end at the last character of the message.
Recap:
string.sub(M,S,E)
Returns the Sth character through the Eth character of string M.
If E is not specified, then it returns the Sth character through the end of string M.
