Questions:
Hi Kasper
I would like to thank you for taking the time out of your day.
No Problem whatsoever. Thank you for having me.
1. Before we really start with interview, can you introduce yourself?
Sure, my name is kasper5150 and I am a senior moderator with h4cky0u.
2.Okay,let's start,how did you started with hacking/security?
Umm, well I was about 10 or 11 and I started with Amiga's and old apple 2e's.
My first successful hack(that led me to stay with it) was finding the HCF opcode in an apple2e.
3. You are long time at h4cky0u,can you tell us something about your function?
Sure, pretty much, Im a moderator. I try(and I mean TRY) to keep the place clean of crap posts and try to make sure everyone gets along. As you probably know, there can be "dramam" in the security field lol.
Moving on...
4. What would you say was your best hack?
I would say my best hack would be rooting COX Communications.
5. While performing a hack, have you ever been in a situation where you felt you were going to get caught?
Of course. There is always that feeling in the back of my mind. If any hacker says, "There is no way I can get caught", then they are lieing to themselves.
6. Have you ever entered a system of high level, or would you ever try it ?
As far as security goes, yes. I did a contract job for COX(an ISP). I got root from a Local Buffer Overflow. They werent very happy lol. As far as government goes, no, being ex-military, I would rather not run the risk of spending life in Levinworth.
7. Do you have experience with programming/coding?
Yes. Im pretty familiar with php, java, C, and perl. Mostly stuff with linux and shell scripting as well.
8. What you new want to learn in hacking/security?
I think the newest thing I would like to learn is the development of spyware/malware. We spend so much time trying to protect ourselves from things we know nothing about.
9. Tell us something about your skills...
Well, for one, I dont like to brag about my skills because I see myself as a retired blackhat and I have moved more towards the whitehat side of things. My main focus in security/hacking is social engineering and Buffer Overflows. I know some about sql injection[thx go to Novalok btw for the help], and I really dont mess with xss unless I really have to.
10. And finall what would be your top 5 tips, for just hacking in general, that you would like to pass onto the next generation of up coming hackers..
A1. Dont be cocky. Just because you think you are the most leet hax0r doesnt make you that. There is always someone bigger and better than you.
A2. Read, read, read, read, and read.
A3. Expand your hacking skills past the computer. Hacking is not all about exploiting servers and defacements. Its about making things better. If you don't know what im talking about, google the PS3 toaster :)
A4. Make friends. Dont be antisocial and think that you cannot trust everyone. Hacking has become very mainstream so we hackers are almost put on a pedestal so to speak so there is no reason to fear interaction if someone knows you are a hacker. Those friends you make might end up helping bail you out someday.
A5. DO NOT OVERSPECIALIZE! ok, so you just learned RFI's and how to find them. Well, most hackers go after more than one thing. It keeps them in the loop. If you just stick to one thing and dont try anything else, you will not only be behind everyone, but you wont know what everyone else is talking about. remember "Overspecialize and you breed in weakness; its slow death"
that's it
