Hi, folks!
Following the great feedback we received on the first part of our platform, we wanted to get right to introducing the next part of the Right Stuff.
Just like our last post, we think the issues and our solutions speak for themselves. Our format is the same, keeping it simple and not boring you with long speeches and explanations.
- Identifying the current problem(s).
- Explaining what our solution is.
- Giving you the anticipated immediate benefits of implementing this solution.
- Giving you the anticipated long term benefits.
Read, digest, enjoy! We're excited by this platform and we hope to receive more great feedback from you all!
CREATING THE RIGHT ROLE-PLAYING ENVIRONMENT
The Right Fleets with the Right Ships and the Right Crews
"Motivation is everything. You can do the work of two people, but you can't be two people. Instead, you have to inspire the next guy down the line and get him to inspire his people." Lee Iacocca
Problem:
There is no community spirit among the club, the fleets, and most of the ships. What community spirit we have is confined to one or two ships. To some people, leadership and being a CO comes naturally, but to others, it's a huge step from being your average role-player. For every ship with a huge, bustling roster, there are two ships that are barely crewed. High command staff turnover.
Solution:
COs need to be shown how to maximize their potential and the potential of their roster. An active roster is a healthy ship, a healthy ship is a healthy fleet, and a healthy fleet is a healthy club. COs need to be provided with the tools to make their ships an enjoyable community: help with ship MOTDs, ship web pages, compiling ship histories, finding new players. A rightly chosen FComm can provide the support and training that his or her COs need to get the job done. Better CO candidate selection. Better advertising of both vacancies and available candidates. Better system for recommending people for COs and XOs. Creation of command training courses and ensuring new XOs get matched with experienced COs and new COs matched with experienced XOs. Mentoring of new COs by experienced ones.
Immediate Benefit:
Closer-knit ship crews. More fun. Easier to join ships. Full rosters. Well-trained command. Better communication. Feeling part of the club as a whole. Being made to feel wanted and needed. Encourages player development through increased interactions.
Long Term Benefits:
Better historical information. Increased command staff retention. Increased member retention. Well-trained XOs to become the next generation of COs. Ship and fleet pride. Crews feel part of something. Promotion from within the ship. Healthy competition and rivalry between ships. More feedback.
Please keep watching for our next (and final) section. This is YOUR club and we want you to feel that we have the policies, the enthusiasm, and the drive to take care of it. As always, your comments and questions are not only welcomed, but encouraged!
