In the valley of Maracas, past the colorful gardens of Maracas Valley, beyond the recreation fields covered with students playing football, and off busy Valley View Drive is the illustrious Campus of USC. USC is home to the many students, staff and faculty once familiarly known as CUC. Walking through the Campus on any sunny day, you’d be greeted by green lush vegetation and students busy going to and from classes. The main entrance gate reminds me of the old sugar estate back in my home country. The sight of the buildings brings back to memory of a CSI Miami crime scene, which sometimes requires a makeover to reveal the true identity. As I entered the men’s dorm, the condition of rooms gave me a feeling of dysphoria. In a flash I exited the dorm and made my way down to the science building. As a strolled by the ‘Upper Room’ caught my attention and suddenly a jolt of memory indicated to me, that this must be a place of prayer. I hear the movement of animals in the brush. The science building is located close to the men’s dorm. It’s comprised of 3 floors. The computer room reminds me of the old Bell Labatories where the first computer was built. Looking out a window from the science building I can see the basketball and court, which caused me to enter a state of cogitation about my youthful days of being a ‘baller’.
With over 10 student-sponsored organizations, ranging in interest to extracurricular activities, students actively take part in creating a lively and diverse campus community. At the campus you can be captivated by the unique blend of students from different countries around the Caribbean. As you move from the science building to the other side of campus you would behold the architecture of new buildings that are constructed to provide more classrooms for students. The University press is located to your right, where all the qualified and dignified Administrators offices are located. Walking distance away from the press is the University Church and Auditorium.
