Robert -

You have requested a static IP and access through the campus firewall.
Your track record is not good and my trust level of your conduct on the
system is not high. However, if you are ever to earn the trust back it
is to your advantage to demonstrate trustworthiness. Although it is not
my decision alone, I will agree to give you the access you request with
the condition that you earn the trust being given to you.

Subject: carrr requesting web server

Hello Mark,

More for your information and to give you a chance to intervene if
you want it. Robert Carr has requested a static IP and a hole in the
campus firewall to run an HTML server. Unless you say otherwise, I
will grant the request Wednesday.

"The search for static security -- in the law and elsewhere -- is
misguided. The fact is security can only be achieved through constant
change, adapting old ideas that have outlived their usefulness to
current facts..."
-William O. Douglas, US Supreme Court Justice
