  1. I did
  2.
  3. modprobe snd-pcm-oss
  4. modprobe snd-mixer-oss
  5. sudo echo "quake3 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
  6.
  7. No complaints. I type
  8.
  9. quake3
  10.
  11.
  12. No sound. Quake 3 reports:
  13.
  14. ------- sound initialization -------
  15. aoss: No such file or directory
  16. Could not open aoss
  17. ------------------------------------
  18. Sound memory manager started
  19.
  20.
  21.
  22. cat /proc/asound/cards
  23.
  24. gives:
  25.
  26.
  27.  0 [UA1EX          ]: USB-Audio - UA-1EX
  28.                       EDIROL UA-1EX at usb-0000:00:02.1-3, full speed
  29.  1 [UM1            ]: USB-Audio - UM-1
  30.                       EDIROL UM-1 at usb-0000:00:02.0-3, full speed
  31.
  32. The one labeled 0 is the sound card, 1 is my other usb device: a midi interface.
  33.
  34.
  35. How do I make Quake 3 understand to find the kernel oss?
