<Phoenix1701> Hey everyone. How in the world does one specify that a window ought to be resizable from within XUL? I know you can pass a flag to openDialog, but what about the main window?
<Phoenix1701> Firefox seems to do it magically somehow, and I can't figure out how or where.
<Mossop> As I recall the main window has a set of flags specified too
<Phoenix1701> Mossop: Any idea where you set them? The main window is being created directly from XML, and there seems to be no flags or windowfeatures attribute.
<Phoenix1701> Even Google is stumped.
<Mossop> Well what are you trying to do this for?
<Phoenix1701> I'm trying to make a very, very lightweight browser.
<Mossop> So using xulrunner or something?
<Phoenix1701> Basically just a window with a toolbar and a tabbrowser control.
<Phoenix1701> Well, launching Firefox with a -chrome argument, but yeah, essentially.
<Mossop> No thats a bit different
<Mossop> Im not sure how you'd go about doing it for that case
<Phoenix1701> Would using XULrunner be better, do you think?
<Mossop> Depends whether you need features from firefox or not
<Phoenix1701> I'm not sure what features are from XUL and what features are from Firefox... I need a tabbed browser pane that uses Gecko to render things, I need a toolbar with back and forward buttons, and I need the ability to view plug-in content.
<Phoenix1701> That's pretty much it.
<Mossop> Thats currently all in the toolkit to the best of my knowledge so should work as well on xulrunner. I know there are plans to move tabbrowser out of the toolkit in the future though
<Phoenix1701> *nods* Well, I'm all for being robust... Firefox somehow makes its window resizable, so it must be possible, but I don't know how to go about it.
<Phoenix1701> developer.mozilla.com appears to be down right now though, so I can't do much research on XULRunner...
<Mossop> I remember there being a fairly easy way to do it with the main window of an xulrunner based app. I dont know about a firefox chrome launch but due to the server outages I cant really investigate much right now :(
<Phoenix1701> Indeed... makes things kind of annoying for me too. :)

<Phoenix1701> If anyone else is awake now, and knows how to allow resizing of a window that's created directly in XUL, I would be most grateful to hear.
<Mossop> Well for an xulrunner app, you set the preference toolkit.defaultChromeFeatures to the flags you want passing to the openWindow cass
<Mossop> s/cass/call
<Phoenix1701> Hm... I wonder if that would work here...
<Mossop> I havent yet found where -chrome is interpreted to see if anything similar is possible
<Phoenix1701> *nods* I'm a total newbie to XUL... so I really have no idea if the way I'm doing things is the best, or even viable. I'm a little nervous about the possibility that tabbrowser is moving out of the toolkit, and I'm using some things from Firefox right now like toolbar images and whatnot, so I think the -chrome solution might be best... if I could even figure out how to make the window hidden initially, then close it and open a new resiza
<Phoenix1701> But the window ignores hidden="true", and I'm not sure how I'd tell Javascript what window to open anyway.
<Mossop> Well tabbrowser wont be moving until at least firefox 3. And even then, its not that difficult a thing to create anyway
<Phoenix1701> *nods* Okay, that's one good thing then... and I guess I could just copy the toolbar button images and CSS out of Firefox to use with XULRunner...
<Phoenix1701> Of course, I just installed xulrunner and have no idea how to invoke it. :/
<Mossop> Well you need to write an application.ini file for your app. you probably want to look at the simplebrowser xulrunner example app that probably does half of what you need
<Phoenix1701> I mean I can't even find the XULrunner command. heh
<Phoenix1701> I'm on OS X, I should mention... it seems to have installed it into the bowels of my system somewhere.

<Mossop> Hrm then Im afraid I dont know what it would have done. I have about zero experience with OS X
<Phoenix1701> Ah, I think I just found the command line tool at least.
<Phoenix1701> xulrunner-bin, in /Library/Frameworks/XUL.framework (how intuitive)
<Mossop> Aha, found where -chrome is handled. You can specify a width or height but nothing else for the features.
<Phoenix1701> Ah, thanks for checking. :)
<Phoenix1701> That would have been nice.
<Mossop> Actually. Are you doing an extension or something for this?
<Phoenix1701> No, I don't think so... I'm just implementing it from scratch using the toolkit, I think.
<Mook> !req scrollback ;)
