The first thing that made the Northwestern one of my first preferences was, its international reputation and ranking. People always talk about the university with much awe and respect - I would love to be part of such an institution.

Going through the academic program, I was first interested in the wide array of electives and the faculty-to-student ratio. I have always preferred smaller classes; it lends a more personal touch to teacher-student relationships and the process of learning itself – but not so small that the diversity of minds, thoughts, reactions becomes limited.

The prospectus itself was highly creative – the originality with which it was created and compiled gave me an insight to the workings of the university. The emphasis on abstract things like integrity, academic rigor, and intellectual vitality all culminated into one very attractive package – I could envision the university as a place rich with experiences, thorough with learning, and bursting with exuberance. The language may sound flowery – but this is exactly my impression – and expression - of the Northwestern University.

At the moment, I am rather confused what to do in my life – should I pursue law or clinical psychology? I have gotten mixed reviews of my talents and potential so far. But the one thing that I am not confused about is that whatever I do, I will do it with passion and focus – I will devote my mind and soul to it.

I am also looking forward to the large libraries that Northwestern offers – for I love books, and discovering new ones. The comfortable distance of Chicago is another factor – it being quite close, and yet not too close, one benefits from the social and cultural advantages.

I am applying to the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and am eager to explore the different realms of education offered there, most particularly Psychology. The Psychology department – with the amazing faculty – seems to be the place for me to begin my great journey into the 'big bad real world' (needless to say, I consider trials in life not to be obstacles but challenges to overcome – so for me, the real world isn't big or bad, but just another test of my mettle!).

Fascinating traditions of Northwestern – like the Wild cat growl and the Primal Scream – just highlight the "togetherness" of the university.
Since I am interested in journalism as well, I hope to work for the Daily Northwestern and also perhaps the Northwestern News Network.

Being of a diverse background myself, I am looking forward to finding similar diversity in my "temple" of higher education. The university's diversity in students will prove to be a stimulating factor for me, I believe. The extra-curricular activities are of such variety that I am sure that I will find all my wishes, my talents, my hopes manifest in some of them.
