Recently I was in one of the private channels I frequent with the old OiNKers having a chat and reminiscing of old times. As a forum obsessive I found OiNK's to be friendly, welcoming and overall having a mature atmosphere as everyone was brought together by music. Unfortunately, the subject moved to the forums and I vented some of my views on the what.cd and waffles.fm. Whilst OiNK's moderating structure was strict, it still allowed friendly banter. What.cd and Waffles.fm look pale and entirely unmoderated by comparison which has been pushing me away from using them as much as I would. As an advocate of What.cd I would seek to improve the situation.
Honeybucket then recommended that I perhaps put myself forward to take on the forums in a more official role. Previously I had been thinking of moving up in the realm of private trackers, but Honeybucket's comment and support has accelerated the process. I, personally, am a forum nut, and have a lot of experience moderating and administrating forums of hundreds of active users - I would love to take the next step in combining my love of music with my forum obsession.
I have gained the support of Kludge and SamPH, who note that the forums are something the site will need to work on to improve, and I'm sure other mods would back me. Becky is another OiNK moderator who would verify my integrity, saying she would support any proposal I made.
All too many times, too, have I been messaged by a user requesting help only to tell them that I can't. As a person who naturally wants to help people in communities he is a part of, I am reluctant to turn them away - this would remove that problem.
Of course, staff cannot confine themselves to one area of the site, and I would be happy to clear through reports (my personal bane is mislabelled torrents, and myself and rosemary cleared hundreds from OiNK) and help with users difficulties as I am already active on IRC and a complete geek about it.
All I request is an audience for discussion between yourself, A9 and backing from my supporters so you could perhaps consider what I've said and give thought to a trial period.
