<teh_yoshi> So I'm learning the Colemak keyboard layout.
<teh_yoshi> I can type at probably like 2 WPM.
<Twi> Colemak?
<teh_yoshi> It's a new keyboard layout.
* Toshi has quit (Quit: Switching to phone, later)
<teh_yoshi> It's supposedly faster than the Dvorak, especially for those who know QWERTY.
<Garr> I'm typing with QWERTY because A) I like it and B) Since when is speed an issue if you're not a secretary.
<teh_yoshi> Not just speed, but ergonomics as well.
<Garr> I'm not seeing it.
<Garr> I like my Qwertyuiop. =\
<teh_yoshi> You're not seeing it because you're not trying.
<teh_yoshi> Anyway, I'll be like a devout monk and not speak for the next few days or so. Except replace the silence with sluggish replies.
<Garr> Actually it's because I dont't have a picture of it.
<Garr> I don't see the need, actually. In my experience there's no pressing requirement to change the layouts.
<teh_yoshi> Also, it removes the Caps Lock button altogether.
<teh_yoshi> Instead, it replaces it with a backspace, so you can have ambidextrous backspacing.

* Bahamut gives channel operator status to Lazo
<Garr> ...I can see that being much more annoying than bumping caps lock.
<teh_yoshi> How often do you ever needed that caps lock?
<Lazo> DID SOMEONE SAY CAPSLOCK
<teh_yoshi> I sure use the backspace every now and then.
<teh_yoshi> Caps Lock? Not so often...
<teh_yoshi> It's a dead key to me.
<Lazo> I use it when doing acronyms.
* Yoshi549 (Yoshi549@anb-D8847B19.dsl.sndg02.pacbell.net) has joined #yc
<Lazo> Like JLENS and stuff.
<Garr> I don't need it, but it comes in handy.
<Garr> Backspace being there would also be a pain if you bump it.
<Lazo> JLENS, JDAM, SLAMRAAM, SWORDS, ADS, etc.
<Garr> Especially if you're going for a CTRL+A and get a CTRL+Backspace instead.
<Garr> I personally don't use Caps Lock but I know plenty of people who do to save them the trouble of holding Shift down.
<teh_yoshi> 'K...
<Garr> As I said before, I'm not against it.
<Garr> I just don't see the point,
<Lazo> Acronyms!
<Garr> Yes, please spend several weeks getting reaccustomed to your keyboard so you can type a few words faster than you could have in the past. :V
<Garr> Seems like a waste of time to me. Then again, I play far too many RPGs.
<Garr> And in RPGs you end up weighing whether it's worth it to buy something or not, and I apply that logic to everything. :V
<teh_yoshi> Anyway, I won't be doing too much talking this month.
<Garr> Unless it's hundreds of words faster, I'll pass.
<Garr> Okay.
<Lazo> Usually what you find in there is inferior to what you find on the field.
<Lazo> Ayuh?
<teh_yoshi> I'm not doing this for speed.
<teh_yoshi> It's the ergonomics is what attracts me.
<Garr> Oh? How so?
<teh_yoshi> http://colemak.com/
<teh_yoshi> It's like QWERTY Remix.
<Garr> Please don't just throw a link at me.
<Garr> I wouldn't ask if I didn't want your opinion. =\
<teh_yoshi> Feisty, feisty...
<teh_yoshi> I didn't even state an opinion.
<Lazo> Are keyboards really that serious
<Lazo> ?
<Garr> Exactly. I just want to know your opinion, not what the website says.
<teh_yoshi> I don't have one yet.
<Garr> Well okay fine let me rephrase. How's it supposed to be more ergonomic(which I never did quite get that word, when you could just say comfortable).
* Yoshi549 has quit (Quit: Yoshi549)
<teh_yoshi> It places more of the common keys on the homerow rather than shifting wildly.
