I woke up in a room full of mirrors where I could only see myself. I couldn't remember anything either about me or about the place where I was.
Oddly, everything seemed familiar, from my long and black hair to my blue forget-me-not eyes.
I decided to leave that place to see what the world outside was made of. As I was getting lost in the long, white-walled corridors, I noticed that there wasn't anything to see, nor to hear. Everything was immaculate, from the ground to the ceiling.
I found an immense room full of thousands of drawers like a morgue, I opened one of them and I figured out that it was really one. Seemingly only one drawer to my left has already been opened and stood empty. I walked there to read the text written on it:
Holden Caulfield
male
16 years old
six feet, two-and-a-half inches tall
I was nauseated by all that while an ineffable desire to leave this place was invading me. I ran as fast as I could, so rapidly that my heart was ready to explode.
In my frantic runaway, I found the front door. Blended by the light and trying to calm myself, it took me some time to realise that I was in the middle of nowhere.
The forest was frightening and inviting at the same time.
It was showing her* opulence made of impetuous birds, malicious squirrels and haughty trees singing with the wind.
As I was moving on carefully, I could hear the savant melody of the gentlest noises: rustling of leafs, whirs of bees twirling around and even my gauche footsteps.
The sumptuous decor that nature and its mighty verve had created was only a jewel case for the graceful nymph asleep in the glade.
She was lying on her back, bearing the sweetest smile as the rich grass was caressing her body.
Though, I soon figured out that she wasn't dreaming, there was a blood drop at the corner of her lips, gleaming on her pale skin.
A number was written on her arm : 1254.
I began to scream, and as a grievous homage, even the wind was complaining.
I left my dryad for the melodious song of a rill, I followed that jolly child until I arrived to a lake. Behind the lake and the forest, there was an immense and grey shape melting into the sky.
On the other bank, I noticed a dark silhouette, wearing hat and frock coat. I hadn't the time to take a few steps in its direction that it was already left.
As I walked towards the town, night was coming, bringing with it silence.
I reached the town at the dawn, leaving the trees for a forest of sinister buildings.
I was hanging around in the filthy, dark streets, trying to understand with my confused mind what I was doing or at least what I would do after.
On my way to nowhere, I was crossing poor men with sad faces and lost eyes.
Everyone was staring at me, I knew my clothes were rather weird and too colourful compared to the rags they were trying to wear.
Even with my amnesia, in a world that I was like discovering for the first time, I didn't seem as lost and as idle as they were : begging for money and food, drinking or drudging themselves.
As I contemplated that awful sight, a familiar silhouette appeared from behind my back.
The man went ahead and turned to me, it was the one I had seen on the lake shore and he was now asking me :
« Holden Calfield ? »
