Xelium IRC Network Oper Rules
Do not gives yourself op or any other status in channels unless requested to
do so by channel owners or in "extreme" cases where a channel is breaking
network rules.
Opers have to set an example for other users of the network. We do not
participate in flooding, harassment, spamming, or other activities that are
looked down upon in the IRC community.
Respect your fellow opers and their opinions. If you have a disagreement, handle
it like adults. Don't start fights or "drama", namecalling and the like solve
nothing. NEVER start using power privileges against each other.
All decisions are made AS A GROUP and nothing is just "your business" when it
comes to using oper privileges.
Opers use the tools given to them as normal users to deal with personal stuff,
like ignoring people when they annoy or flood you, or banning them from your
channels if they harass you.
We do not kill/ban or punish users in any way for disliking you.
Opers with access to services do not drop channels or nicks "for fun" or to
punish users for annoying them or disliking them.
All the network rules set forth in the MOTD also apply to opers, INCLUDING those
against ban evasion (except in extreme cases). You will not avoid bans to punish
or annoy a user.
We do not tell users how to run their channels unless there are network rules
being broken.
Avoid doing things to users that will result in an attack
on the network. Be polite. Be fair.
Do not get involved with personal fights among groups of users.
Do not lie to other opers to get users removed.
Don't flaunt your "power" as an oper. Bots that are opered should use usermode
+H and /sethost a "normal" Xelium hostname (X-72HJ92OE.your.isp.com) and should
not publically use any oper priveleges (uncluding hidden ones like samode).
G/K:Lines:
If there is a serious problem with a user who is breaking the rules or otherwise
abusing the network, you can remove them. You must, however, be prepared to
explain your actions to the other staff members.
NEVER use G/K:Lines for fun or just because you are angry or don't like someone
If banning the user from one server only (K:Line) will suffice, then use /kline
and not /gline or /os akill.
#support:
This channel is for support of users only.
Rules that apply to users in the channel also apply to opers (don't bring
personal/channel fights there, don't use public scripts, etc.)
Do not bring oper discussions about the network in here or anywhere else but
#staff.
Do not abuse or taunt the users asking for help, even if they ask the most
obvious questions or you happen to dislike them. Don't "play around" with the
users, especially trolls/flooders. Let them know they are not welcome, then ban
them from the channel.
Excessive use of smilies and "laughs" should be kept out of #support.
Global Messages:
It's very important to keep global messages to a minimum. If we use them too often
then users will start ignoring them and they may miss important messages, in light
of this:
They MUST be use only to report important information directly relating to the
network, including scheduled server outages and upgrades, and additions/removals
of servers.
They will NOT be used for "fun" messages
They will NOT be used to say "hi" to your buddy
They will NOT be used for personal gain or "spamming"
The Xelium/SigTerm radio station may no longer advertise using global messages.
Services:
Usage of the OperServ RAW command is strictly prohibited and only to be used to
correct serious problems that cannot be assessed with any other oper commands. It
will not be used to "make services talk" or do anything funny in channels.
Dropping or forbidding nicks channels for "fun" is strictly disallowed. Nicks will
only be forbidden if they are not to be REGISTERED for valid reasons, and Q:Lined if
they are not to be USED for valid reasons. Channels will not be forbidden to punish
people you don't like or to show off your ability to do so.
Specific Oper Privs:
Host changing to allow for evasion of bans is strictly forbidden. All opers must
always wear their *.Xelium.org hostname, nothing fancy like Xelium.network. Opered
bots must be hidden as opers and have a hostname similar to normal users'.
Even though the /sa* commands are well-hidden to users, they will not be used unless
to enforce network rules or to get into #staff after being accidentily banned. Use your
channel's access list to set modes on yourself or your bots, NOT samode.
You may have a separate "copy" of yourself on other servers (only one per), but they
are restricted to normal user status unless you need to use oper command for some
reason or another (i.e. routing).
We do not kill, ban, override modes on, shun, ban from #support, insult, play "mind
games" with, forcefully join/part/nickchange/quit, restrict access to services or
network help channels, or mislead users because we don't like them, because they are
"annoying", they say/do things you do not personally agree with, or because they
ignored you or banned you from their channel.
