Hey,
Great, I hear everything your saying, and like I said, communication between the forks and L2j should be a nice and shouldn't be a war or a competition.
I'm going to get some free time for about 31 days (OFF from University!!!), so I'm going to be doing the usual... Party during the night, and Code during the day (maybe not all Java for L2J, but hey Wink , Coding is coding).... I would really like to contribute a lot to L2J but I wouldn't know where to begin.
I talked to FBIagent on ICQ and he seems to tell me all the time that it can be extremely picky in terms of the way things are added into the SVN, so I was wondering If there was a place I could read up on ALL the guidelines so I can arrange all the things I will contribute, and make sure that they don't break the guidelines.
Also, an Idea:
Is it possible to add a part on this forum available to L2J Devs, and Forks, that has a list of things being done or worked on.... Like a to-do-list. For example:
We all compile a LARGE list of things that are not working like retail, things that are not working at all, things that need to be checked, etc. (like a common to do list, it'll contain things that NEED to be done)
It can be ordered in priority, OR just left in random order, doesn't matter.
So assuming you make a post like that, you say everyone that wants to start working on something in this list and contribute it to L2J, make a post below with what you are working on. Then you add the name and put the item the person is working on in a Yellow color (In Progress), and delete his post.
This way all the projects can see openly whats in need to be done (and by the way, this would never work if it was made on a forks forum, otherwise I would have done it), and also by seeing what needs to be done, and seeing if someone is working on it already, we can eliminate the overlapping of work, A dev could go take a look at the list and know they got something to do, instead of thinking "hmm..... Hi Eclipse.... What am I going to do inside you today.....".
Also it would be a huge step forward in organization in my opinion, because you'd see a list, and then after its done or committed or fixed, the item worked on is changed to Green or removed from the list. Also if people wanted to work together on something, say your working on something, and Evil33t is working on the same thing, you could stick heads together and get it done faster OR with less mistakes.
(the way i think that would work is if someone posted that they wanted to work on something thats already in yellow status aka in progress, and then they have to talk to the person working on it to get some action on it Wink )
Its a lot, its complicated, but I think its nice, maybe you've got a different take on it.
