: One last question from me.
:
: I've been doing a lot of thinking on my own about what is important for 'just-players' in STF who log in, post and log out again. I believe those are most of our members, and most newbies, and as I understood it, we want to keep them happy and get new ones.
:
: And one of _my_ answers is, it's the quality of the CO and the GM. Of course, the XO also plays a role, but primarily the CO for managing the ship and the GM for providing the players with a good rp-experience.
:
: So here are the questions for the candidates:
:
: 1. Do you want to keep things like they are now in the GM Dept? Meaning for example the new rules to become GMM and the newly revised GM exam.
: (Obviously this goes primarily to Therle)
I realize this is primarily toward Therle, but I figured I would comment on the topic of the GM Exam. Since it will have been in usage for a good amount of time toward the middle of next term, I'd like to see a review completed of it then. We should have enough information by then to make an accurate assessment of whether or not it's improving the quality of our prospective GMs. As for the new GMM rules, I definitely intend to make sure that they're reviewed on an on-going basis. I believe this is a sound practice for ANY new regulation.
:
: 2. What do you plan to change to
: a) give the same kind of training and support to wanna-be COs
: b) help the current COs to improve their ships if it is obvious that there is a continuing problem (COs who didn't get any training maybe)
: c) Do you approve of the idea of a COM (CO Mentor, same principle as GMM)
:
: Thank you again,
: Julia
:
: PS: Please answer before the 11th, because I'll be on holiday later. Thank you.
:
Eek, Julia, get out of my mind! <G> One of the items I intend to investigate is a CO Mentoring program, similar to the programs that I currently run for our new members and new Gamemasters. I really think that it would help newer COs (and some of the older ones who would like the extra help) get used to their positions. In the past, it's usually been the case where an experienced XO was around to guide a newer CO; however, with our current member turnover, that's not always happening. I believe a mentoring program is definitely something that should be looked at to bridge this gap. That's one idea to meet your first two parts there. Other ideas I've had include offering support to COs in areas they might not necessarily be skilled at: MOTD and ship web site design, historical digging, leadership skills (both IC and OOC). We have a number of talented members in these areas who I feel would be more than happy to help COs get acquainted with their position. We intend to provide these resources or facilitate a means for the COs to get into contact with the appropriate people. Finally, I'm currently in the process of drafting a CO Command course, which will be a future training aid.
Thanks for your questions, Julia!
