  17. DESCRIPTION
  18.        Secure Locate provides a secure way to index and quickly search for all
  19.        files on your system  regardless  of  ownership.  It  uses  incremental
  20.        encoding  just like GNU locate to compress its database to make search‐
  21.        ing faster, but it will  also  check  file  permissions  and  ownership
  22.        before displaying matched entries so that users will not see files they
  23.        do not have access to. Note that  permissions  and  ownership  are  not
  24.        stored in the database.

  26.        This  manual  page  documents slocate.  slocate Enables system users to
  27.        search entire filesystems without displaying unauthorized files.

  29.    OPTIONS
  30.        -u     Create slocate database starting at path /.
  31.  
  32.        -U <dir>
  33.               Create slocate database starting at path <dir>.
  34.  
  35.        -e <dir1,dir2,...>
  36.               Exclude directories from the slocate database.
  37.  
  38.        -f <fstype1,...>
  39.               Exclude  files  on  specific  file  systems  from  the   slocate
  40.               database.

  42.        -c     Parse  ’/etc/updatedb.conf’  when updating the slocate database.
  43.               (see CONFIGURATION FILE below).

  45.        -l <level>
  46.               Security level.  0 turns security checks  off.  This  will  make
  47.               searchs  faster.   1  turns  security  checks  on.  This  is the
  48.               default.

  50.        -i     Does a case insensitive search.

  52.        -q     Quiet mode.  Error messages are suppressed.

  55.               Limit the amount of results shown to <num>.

  58.               --regexp=<regexp> Search the database using a basic POSIX  regu‐
  59.               lar expression.

  62.               --output=<file> Specfies the database to create.

  78.        Secure Locate will parse GNU Locate’s /etc/updatedb.conf when the argu‐
  79.        ment is provided. But please be aware that Secure Locate currently does
  80.        NOT support all options provided by GNU Locate’s configuration file.
