Parent brag sheet for Katie Punsly
What do I consider the outstanding accomplishments of my child during the past three or four years ?
Why did I select these as most important ?
I consider the outstanding accomplishments of my child will the followings:
1. She is the chief copy editor for the school magazine “Pulse”.
She is working as an intern in Del Mar Times as a reporter.
She has been a team member of Canyon Crest Acadamtic team since 2004 and have participate completitions for almost 4 years now.
She is very active in different clubs in her high school.
The reason I think they are important accomplishments because they are very challenging tasks to do.
In which area have I witnessed the most development in my child during high school ?
I think the most development is how she overcome her shyness and become a more couragous young woman and how she works so hard to achieved so much in such a few years and she handles her more difficult tasks. But I am most impressed she is showing more respects toward me and appriciated how hard that I have worked, I think we have a more understanding relationship now.
Describe any significant family events that have occurred over the years that may have affected my child's performance in high school.
The first event was November 22nd, 1996 when her father passed away. This lose had the most utmost impact for Katie's life, I think till this day, she still remember every thing about her father and pains is still tremendous. The lose of a parent is indescrible, you have to experience it to understand the pain.
The second event is winter of 2006. Katie had some vision and headache difficulty. She had experienced Migranine ,insomnia and vision problem. It was so painful that she was forced to take some time off just to rest and recover. She slowly had to learn how to read again from an eye therapist, it was very hard for us both to adjust to that, she finally was to learn how to read without stressing herself too much. It was like a person to learn how to walk again.
If I have to describe my child choosing 2-3 adjectives will be: Intelligent, awesome, tremendous reader.
What is her significant personality traits ?
Katie is an intelligent, eloquent speaker, also a deep thinker ,outstanding writer and excellent communicator. She is one of the few people I know who actually read for fun. I was surprised she was reading for fun for our 14 days Hawaiian cruise when we were crusing in 2004. She just loves to read her books.
The major events that I see as turning points in my child development is the two things that I mentioned above. 1. The passing for her father. I have no doubt this lose was the one the major turning point for her life. I noticed that she is more focus on “perfection” and work hard to achieve that
her consulor said Katie felt that she could not control the fate of her father, therfore she focus her energy to control her envirorment and her work to be more “perfect”, when things are perfect, she felt hat she is in control, I 'm not sure how much truth to it, but I know losing a parent is absolutely a turning point for her.
Her illness, worrying about her vision and the painful migrainine that only made her work harder to overcome her illness, she is one very determined child to work very hard to reach her goal.
Her major strengths as a college candidate and person is her intelligence and her talent for writing and curiousity for learning and desire for being a better person. She is very driven when comes to her school work and the work that she loves, she takes her work seriously. But she does not take herself too seriously. Katie is also a very deep person, she is that very rare person think beauty is just skin deep, she does not spend too much trying to be vain, that is a very unusual qualtiy for a teenager girl.
We are a low income family but we are not going to let financial circumstances to limit Katie to go to college.
I don't think any other family -related factor will influence my child's choice.
