Greetings,
My names is ! and I've been working with computers since age 13,
(1995). I started out on an Amiga 2000 with a Supra
Baud 2400 bps modem. I used the modem to use bulletin boards around
town. (Juneau, Alaska) After learning the internals of an Amiga
I moved to IBM PC Compatibles (the i386 series). I soon moved on to
the Internet doing web pages with Netscape 1.0 and quickly catching on
to the fundamentals of HTML and graphic manipulation to get customer's
business' on the Internet.
After working web pages I moved on to some to an actual programming language,
Visual Basic. I wrote small database applications using Microsoft Access Jet
Engine for invoice processing. After that I wrote an actual
HTML editor. In hinesite the editor was ahead of it's time.
I named it 'Web Workstation'. The application had features like
custom application buttons saved to configuration files, a 'Starter' feature
for new users, and dialog windows for each HTML tag. After designing the
application I used it to create advanced homepages in HTML 2.0. I was
15 at the time.
I soon learned of a UNIX-like operating system called Linux, which I'm sure you're
familiar with at this point. I installed my first Linux distribution (named
Slackware) in 1996. I learned the inside and outside of the operating system
and quickly learned just how operating systems work. I ran web servers and
learned IP masquerading, had my local area network all on the Internet through
a single dial-up account. After all that, I moved on to a lower-level
programming language called C. With pointers and custom memory management, I
quickly learned the advantage of higher level languages and why each language
has its place. At 16 I opened my first business, named Corebit, which was a
computer repair business. I was replacing motherboards, doing memory upgrades,
replacing power supplies and more. Whipping machines clean and doing fresh operating system
installs. The business was successful for the time I operated it.
During my off time with the business I began a project I code named 'prescanic'
which was a GNU/Linux C application that scanned computers on the Internet for services.
With syn scanning, custom TCP/IP fingerprinting, it continued to grow in to
a 4000 line project coded solely by myself. I also collaborated with other programmers
on the Internet and helped with several open source projects written in C.
I started working for the local school district during the summer of my Junior year in
high school doing computer repair, networking, computer upgrades and general maintenance
on PC's and Macintosh computers. I was complimented several times on my combination of
technical expertise and interpersonal skills. I did this job until I graduated in 2000.
After graduating in 2000 I moved on to the Office of the Governor where I did the same
type of work I did for the school district. Office of the Governor was on a Novell Network
similar to the school districts. I did user tree network maintenance, printer installs, and more.
I worked for the Office of the Governor for a short 8 months and moved on to a new non-intern
position at the Department of Revenue as an Analyst Programmer. I quickly excelled in this
position and exceeded expectations. The position was created for a reporting
system called the 'Alaska Salmon Price Report'. My initial job was to create a data entry
system for the report using PowerBuilder and a Sybase Adaptive Enterprise database (which is what
Microsoft SQL Server is based off of). I was given 3 years to complete the project and ended
up completing it in 3 months. After this success I took the initiative to create a successor
to the divisions current Tax Account System (named TAS for short). I worked with stored
procedures on the database, vertical and horizontal table design with table normalization. The project
grew to approximately 6000 lines of code. That's extremely large for a PowerBuilder application.
I was complimented on my 'Extreme Programming' method of coding and my interpersonal relations.
During my time as Analyst Programmer I continued to write custom applications and web pages for
personal friends and known clients as a side business, renamed to Captivas at this point. I had
scored contract work from HP and was fixing PC's and replacing motherboards for them.
Then, after two and half years (at age 20), I quit my job sighting mental health complications. A year later
I landed in MHU; the mental health ward of Bartlett. These were tough years for me as I learned to
cope with my newly found illness. I found myself in trouble with the law with and earned two disorderly
conduct charges as well as an harassment charge after a fight with my parents. My illness has been
anything but odd, but as I speak in present day I know now that I have a great awareness of it and
the symptoms are disappearing. I can say now that my illness is under control and I'm ready for
the work place once again. During my time with this illness I was not completely out of operation, my
work was scarce but I worked several small jobs, only for a month at a time. My business work was
scarce but I managed to pull in a few jobs where I learned more about HTML and graphic design, and
server side scripting with PHP. I used, setup, and maintained a MySQL database that supported the data
behind the PHP scripting. The web pages I created were large in size and graphically heavy.
Well, that sums it up. I hope for your consideration during this job employment opportunity.
On a personal level, I've been told that I'm sharp, intelligent, and good to have around because of
my well rounded knowledge of IT.
