I Now downloading is generalize.
2.
3.
Actually, in order to dowload files, most of the people are using P2P networks. Now it's no longer reserved for geeks, all the family may use this way to get pictures, movies, musics or anything else... In the past, downloading was the fact of people who were perfectly knowing the Internet... and "ordinary" people just burned cd's with their friends.
4.
But now, downloading is reachable for a majority, due to the evolution of softwares : today, it's so simple to download a song with emule (for example, who use the ed2k network (with servers) and the kademalia network (decentralized network)) ; you have just to configure the connection (some tutorials are in open access on the net) and then, enjoy ! Others softwares are make to downloading, and other networks too, like torrents.

II Despite all, downloading is not the main cause of the drop in sales of CD's
7.
8.
Some people (a majority and accessory governement with the association like sacem (which representate nombers of artists)) thinks that the downloading as the main cause of the drop in sales of CD, but it's not true. In fact, a recent work of two teachers of London University ( Brigitte Andersen and Marion Frenz ) have prooved that the relation between downloading and drop in sales of CD is not so evident. On a panel of 2100 canadians, this work shown that sometimes, it's the opposite : downloading makes you want to buy CD... the reasons ? they prefer to listen the song before buyig it (like a radio in fact...).
9.
By the numbers and according to the study, downloading a dozen of songs in P2P increase sales of 0.44 disc while downloading a "rare" song causes a 4% augmentation in the flow of discs, !
10.
But why do people download...? It's often because they regards that the price of CD's is too much expensive !
11.
12.
This study is not the only who arrived at this conclusion...
13.
14.
15.
III the governement is trying to fight again piracy.
16.
17.
The governement doesn't want to listen these studys, and prefer the simplicity of « downloading is bad, we have to stop it! ».
