Spindler Strategies Lead to Failures

Apple's deviations from its core business models has brought it through some pathetic times. For instance, during the Mike Spindler years, Apple moved from being a sole provider of Macintosh computers using PowerPC(PPC) to allowing others to sell computers using the Macintosh operating system. Although Apple received royalties for every computer sold, this business model let competitors into the market. These competitors were able to sell computers which performed better for prices equal to or lower than Apple. When this was implemented, Apple gained the advantage of being able to function as a software provider, similar to Microsoft, charging $50 per copy of its operating system. This was cheaper than importing Macintosh OS to Intel and having to support many different hardware configurations. Apple could then use the profits from this venture to develop other products.
