This is what infiniti and I worked out over at the psi conference room. Just for the logs ;)

[01:12:35] *** infiniti has joined the room as a moderator and an administrator
[01:14:52] <Uranellus> hello infiniti
[01:15:37] <Uranellus> I'm uranellus from http://forum.psi-im.org/thread/4679,2 .. I thought the chat could be quickened a bit and afterwards we paste the chatlog into the forum
[01:20:24] <infiniti> hi
[01:20:28] <infiniti> sure
[01:22:02] <infiniti> the ldd output looks fine
[01:22:12] <Uranellus> yeah, I guessed so
[01:22:24] <infiniti> there are two reasons a qt plugin may not load
[01:22:39] <infiniti> 1) it can't link and load (ldd can show if this is a problem or not)
[01:23:00] <infiniti> 2) the plugin, once loaded, is determined to be incompatible with the running qt
[01:23:19] <infiniti> this can happen if qt and the plugin use different build modes (release vs debug)
[01:24:15] <Uranellus> hmm
[01:24:25] <infiniti> unfortunately i don't know if there is an easy way to determine what mode anything is in (qt or plugin)
[01:24:38] <infiniti> do you know what the qt package name is called?
[01:24:59] <Uranellus> these are the qca packages installed
[01:25:00] <Uranellus> qca-1.0-118, libqca2-plugin-cyrus-sasl-2.0.0-29.2, libqca2-devel-2.0.0-14, libqca2-2.0.0-29.2
[01:26:11] <infiniti> and qt?
[01:27:09] <Uranellus> http://pastebin.ca/765412
[01:27:51] <infiniti> okay doesn't reveal anything
[01:28:17] <infiniti> i think you should try compiling the plugin
[01:28:18] <Uranellus> oh :( what other information could you need
[01:28:42] <infiniti> you can try one mode, and then the other, and that will tell us what is going on
[01:28:51] <infiniti> and also the plugin you build would probably work and you can just use it too
[01:30:17] <infiniti> http://delta.affinix.com/download/qca/2.0/plugins/qca-ossl-2.0.0-beta2.tar.bz2
[01:31:58] <Uranellus> should I download everything from there?
[01:32:06] <Uranellus> e.g. i need qca2 as well ..
[01:32:25] <infiniti> no, you can use the qca lib you already have
[01:34:00] <Uranellus> hm .. I have libqca2-devel installed, but the ossl plugin tells me it needs qca >= 2.0
[01:35:14] <infiniti> run configure with --verbose
[01:35:41] <albert> The build process for mailody, kopete and psi-0.10 have still not changed for slotted qca in gentoo so qca-2 (and psi-011) is still on hold. Davide makes the ebuilds for qca2 and plugins up to date and Alon tells those responsible for the various packages what they need to do (including patches) but nothing happends.
[01:36:28] <Uranellus> http://pastebin.ca/765420
[01:39:08] <infiniti> albert: i guess it takes time..
[01:40:04] <albert> Not even a reply since qca2 was released.
[01:42:06] <infiniti> Uranellus: very strange. i don't know what that "returned: 256" is about, when the atest program can only return 0 or 1
[01:43:14] <infiniti> on side note, is there a newer libqca2-devel package you can get? it looks like you're on release #14 but the libqca2 is on 29.2
[01:44:35] <Uranellus> I've build a downloaded qca2 .. guess the latest 2.0.0 .tar.bz2 .. and now I'm trying to configure with --with-qca=../qca-2.0.0/
[01:44:41] <Uranellus> but I got some other problems now
[01:46:08] <infiniti> paste
[01:46:51] <Uranellus> g++ -c -m64 -pipe -O2 -D_REENTRANT -Wall -W -DQT_NO_DEBUG -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/share/qt4/mkspecs/default -I. -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include -I../qca-2.0.0/include/QtCrypto -I. -I. -o atest.o atest.cpp
atest.cpp:1:20: error: QtCrypto: No such file or directory
[01:47:40] <Uranellus> though .. ls ../qca-2.0.0/include/QtCrypto/ is a whole directory
[01:48:13] <infiniti> there's a QtCrypto file in the QtCrypto dir
[01:48:17] <Uranellus> yes
[01:48:19] <infiniti> pass a full path to --with-qca
[01:48:23] <infiniti> and not a relative one
[01:48:57] <Uranellus> worked
[01:50:36] <infiniti> i guess you can 'make install' the plugin now
[01:51:06] <Uranellus> ok, got to restart psi now no? if so I'll be back shortly
[01:51:14] <infiniti> you said you build qca itself from source also. did you 'make install' it or not
[01:51:19] *** Hawke has left the room
[01:51:30] <Uranellus> no
[01:51:33] <Uranellus> didnt install that
[01:51:36] <Uranellus> should I do that too?
[01:51:38] <infiniti> used it just to build the plugin
[01:51:41] <infiniti> this should be interesting
[01:51:51] <Uranellus> brb
[01:51:53] <infiniti> run qcatool2 plugins
[01:52:01] <infiniti> before bothering to restart :)
[01:52:12] <Uranellus> qcatool plugins
Qt Library Paths:
  /usr/lib64/qt4/plugins
  /usr/bin
Available Providers:
  (none)
[01:52:21] <Uranellus> oO
[01:52:25] <infiniti> now try this
[01:52:49] <infiniti> export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=qca/lib
[01:52:55] <infiniti> where 'qca' is the qca dir that you built
[01:53:06] <infiniti> and then run qca/bin/qcatool2 plugins
[01:53:43] <albert> The more I see this, the less I regret going with gentoo two years ago. It just seem to work.
[01:54:12] <Uranellus> same output infiniti only the lib paths changed a bit
[01:54:13] <infiniti> just seem to work?
[01:54:20] <infiniti> what do the lib paths say
[01:54:29] <Uranellus> Qt Library Paths:
  /usr/lib64/qt4/plugins
  /home/alexander/tmp/qca-ossl/qca-2.0.0/bin

[01:54:39] <Uranellus> though the qca-ossl plugin is somewhere else ..
[01:54:56] <infiniti> it should be in /usr/lib64/qt4/plugins/crypto
[01:55:15] <infiniti> right?
[01:55:32] <Uranellus> it changes to whatever I put LD_LIBRARY_PATH
[01:56:01] <Uranellus> no not true
[01:56:22] <infiniti> that variable is needed in order for your locally built qcatool2 to use your locally built qca
[01:56:42] <infiniti> go back to the qca-ossl source dir
[01:56:49] <Uranellus> ok
[01:57:00] <infiniti> pass --debug
[01:57:03] <infiniti> to configure
[01:57:31] <infiniti> make clean, make, make install
[01:58:35] <Uranellus> qcatool plugins
Qt Library Paths:
  /usr/lib64/qt4/plugins
  /usr/bin
Available Providers:
  qca-ossl

[01:58:52] <Uranellus> that is the "global" qcatool which i installed with opensuse
[01:58:53] <infiniti> so that's the reason. qt must be built in debug mode, and so all plugins need to be also
[01:59:14] <infiniti> restart psi :)
[01:59:53] <Uranellus> why do you think qt must be build in debug mode?
[01:59:58] <Uranellus> infiniti: works :):)
[02:00:07] <infiniti> well, remember i said the mode of qt and the mode of any plugin must match
[02:00:20] <infiniti> when we had the plugin in release mode (default) it didn't work. but in debug mode it did work
[02:00:24] <infiniti> so this reveals qt is in debug mode
[02:00:27] <Uranellus> so now you conclude that my qt is in debug mode?
[02:00:38] <infiniti> yes
[02:00:41] <Uranellus> ok
[02:00:42] <albert> I am about to update my plugins and I guess that means my psi will die as usually...
[02:01:23] <Uranellus> fyi i didnt even have to restart psi .. just went to modify account and activated encrypted and reconnected on another server
[02:01:38] <infiniti> yeah i just realized after saying it that you didn't have to restart
[02:02:05] <Uranellus> infiniti: now what should I report to opensuse? 1. update to the latest plugin version .. and compile the plugin in debug mode?
[02:02:19] <Uranellus> or should I say, in the same mode as qt is compiled?
[02:02:35] <infiniti> yes, say in the same mode as qt, which happens to be debug right now
[02:02:40] <Uranellus> ok
[02:02:49] <Uranellus> one thing seems still strange
[02:03:05] <Uranellus> when I had the official ossl plugin installed .. it crashed psi
[02:03:13] <Uranellus> official=opensuse rpm
[02:03:23] <Uranellus> ah nevermind
[02:03:33] <infiniti> probably too old
[02:03:35] <Uranellus> the reason psi crashed was that the plugin is too old
[02:03:55] <Uranellus> the reason it didnt work when I first compiled it myself was that it was in release mode
[02:03:59] <Uranellus> now in debug mode it works
[02:04:05] <Uranellus> ok
[02:04:14] <infiniti> also libqca-devel seems old
[02:04:21] <infiniti> which is why your qcatool is not called qcatool2
[02:04:24] *** albert has left the room
[02:05:12] <Uranellus> ok
[02:06:04] <infiniti> i think that explains everything
[02:06:14] <Uranellus> ok
[02:08:00] <Uranellus> infiniti: thanks alot for your help
[02:08:36] <infiniti> no problem :)
