[10/24/07:22] <KitchenStaff> maybe i'm nuts - but the problem with bt is still that the file checksums must match exactly
[10/24/07:22] <KitchenStaff> that means no changing filenames, or adjusting tags, or anything
[10/24/07:22] <KitchenStaff> doubles your space requirements
[10/24/07:36] <KitchenStaff> ...and silence gripped the room
[10/24/07:37] <gleam> indeed
[10/24/07:38] <gleam> bbiab, work
[10/24/07:49] <KitchenStaff> too radical, i guess
[10/24/08:06] <gleam> too difficult to prevent
[10/24/08:07] <KitchenStaff> what do you mean?
[10/24/08:07] <gleam> to programmatically keep track of new filenames, new tags, etc
[10/24/08:08] <gleam> to an extent where you can hash check it
[10/24/08:08] <KitchenStaff> unless we switch to something like direct connect
[10/24/08:08] <KitchenStaff> then it doesn't matter
[10/24/08:08] <gleam> right
[10/24/08:08] <gleam> or ftp
[10/24/08:08] <gleam> heh
[10/24/08:08] <KitchenStaff> hahaha
[10/24/08:08] <gleam> or sftp
[10/24/08:08] <KitchenStaff> i did an ftp thing for a while with musepack
[10/24/08:08] <gleam> or direct web downloads
[10/24/08:08] <gleam> or kazaa
[10/24/08:08] <KitchenStaff> yow
[10/24/08:09] <KitchenStaff> consider:
[10/24/08:09] <KitchenStaff> checksum the audio portion only
[10/24/08:09] <KitchenStaff> no tags to check
[10/24/08:09] <KitchenStaff> keep one additional file with audio checksums, log files, cue sheets, replaygain information
[10/24/08:09] <KitchenStaff> original tags
[10/24/08:10] <KitchenStaff> ripper information
[10/24/08:10] <KitchenStaff> and have a tool manage all that stuff for you
[10/24/08:10] <KitchenStaff> then simply share your tree
[10/24/08:10] <KitchenStaff> folks grab what they want
[10/24/08:10] <KitchenStaff> check your downloads against the bundled sha checksums
[10/24/08:11] <KitchenStaff> you can have any directory structure you want and still be compliant
[10/24/08:11] <gleam> you go code it
[10/24/08:11] <KitchenStaff> I ALREADY HAVE :D
[10/24/08:11] <gleam> well then awesome :P
[10/24/08:12] <KitchenStaff> here's the thing, tho
[10/24/08:12] <KitchenStaff> you guys might not want the level of insanity I put on things
[10/24/08:12] <KitchenStaff> for example, first generation rips only
[10/24/08:13] <KitchenStaff> the person packaging it must have ripped it
[10/24/08:13] <gleam> yeah, i'm ok with that
[10/24/08:13] <gleam> that's fairly normal
[10/24/08:13] <KitchenStaff> also
[10/24/08:13] <KitchenStaff> lossless
[10/24/08:13] <gleam> yep
[10/24/08:13] <KitchenStaff> I will happily share the source code to the tool so that it can be modifed to suit the new purposes
[10/24/08:13] <KitchenStaff> new password generator etc
[10/24/08:14] <gleam> altho tbh i'm happy with rips that aren't yours tagged as 'not my rip' or whatever but still allowed
[10/24/08:14] <gleam> but i'm not really interested in starting a new distribution system or tracker :P
[10/24/08:14] <KitchenStaff> the tracker is just so bloody public
[10/24/08:15] <KitchenStaff> private dc++ is nice
[10/24/08:15] <KitchenStaff> so we mod the source to allow 'not my rip's
[10/24/08:16] <KitchenStaff> which could potentially have some sort of warning that the offset correction could be wrong or whatever
[10/24/08:17] <KitchenStaff> we have one person's machine host the hub - or a remote box for that matter.
[10/24/08:17] <KitchenStaff> doesn't need much storage or anything
[10/24/08:17] <KitchenStaff> there should be lots of cheap seedboxen out there now :D
[10/24/08:18] <KitchenStaff> i even built transcoding into the tool
[10/24/08:18] <KitchenStaff> retagging
[10/24/08:18] <KitchenStaff> all that stuff
[10/24/08:18] <KitchenStaff> we'd need a Perl coder, tho, since I don't have the time I once had
[10/24/08:20] <KitchenStaff> anyway...just an idea.
[10/24/08:21] <KitchenStaff> not to crap on The Question Mark's parade. :D
[10/24/08:23] <gleam> there are various automod things
[10/24/08:23] <gleam> to check validity of eac/xact logs
[10/24/08:23] <gleam> make sure crcs match, no c2, etc
[10/24/08:24] <KitchenStaff> no xact so far
[10/24/08:24] <KitchenStaff> but the eac logs are parsed and checked
[10/24/08:25] <KitchenStaff> 0.95b3 is the latest it supports
[10/24/08:25] <KitchenStaff> it runs replaygain on the rip for you
[10/24/08:25] <KitchenStaff> it's the only way I stay organized
[10/24/08:37] <gleam> ugh
[10/24/08:37] <gleam> i'm poor and i'm down to 25gb free on my flac drive
[10/24/08:37] <gleam> so no money to buy more hard drives right now
[10/24/08:42] <KitchenStaff> that'll come
[10/24/08:42] <KitchenStaff> not that expensive anymore
[10/24/08:42] <KitchenStaff> i bought my externals for $100 per 1/2 TB
[10/24/08:43] <gleam> at this point if it's a tracker i care about, i seed something for a while and then when i need to make space, i stop seeding it and archive it to dvd
[10/24/08:44] <KitchenStaff> sure
[10/24/08:44] <KitchenStaff> just depends on what your goal is
[10/24/08:44] <KitchenStaff> we have a setup where you leave a small file behind indicating that you have the rip
[10/24/08:45] <KitchenStaff> and if someone wants it they can request it from you
[10/24/08:45] <KitchenStaff> sort of like the not-oft-correctly-used Offered forum
[10/24/08:45] <KitchenStaff> but on a more automated basis
[10/24/08:47] <gleam> gah
[10/24/08:47] <gleam> safari crashed
[10/24/08:47] <gleam> hate when that happens
[10/24/08:48] <gleam> http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20153177,00.html
[10/24/08:48] <KitchenStaff> yeah, what's THAT all about
[10/24/08:48] <gleam> the david copperfield rapist thing?
[10/24/08:48] <KitchenStaff> is that what they're saying?
[10/24/08:48] <KitchenStaff> i have no idea
[10/24/08:48] <gleam> yeah
[10/24/08:48] <gleam> The Las Vegas Review-Journal printed a story confirming the raid at the warehouse in an investigation of possible sexual misconduct by the illusionist, citing a source with knowledge of the investigation. According to the source, Copperfield’s accuser, a Seattle woman, claimed she was raped by Copperfield while in the Bahamas [11], but the case came under the FBI’s jurisdiction because the accuser is a U.S. citizen and did not report the incident
[10/24/08:49] <KitchenStaff> wtf
[10/24/08:49] <gleam> http://www.lvrj.com/breaking_news/10658746.html
[10/24/08:50] <KitchenStaff> barely famous anymore
[10/24/08:50] <KitchenStaff> i saw him live once

[10/24/09:18] <gleam> hmm 15724 mp3s and 15721 flacs
[10/24/09:18] * gleam finds the stray mp3s
[10/24/09:32] <gleam> boo madonna
[10/24/09:32] <gleam> /usr/tmp/music/flac/Madonna/Like A Virgin/10-Like A Virgin (Extended Dance Remix).flac not found
[10/24/09:32] <gleam> /usr/tmp/music/flac/Madonna/Like A Virgin/11-Material Girl (Extended Dance Remix).flac not found
[10/24/09:32] <gleam> i should change this script to delete mp3s that no longer have a corresponding flac
[10/24/09:32] <gleam> but i'm a little worried about data corruption or something else
[10/24/09:32] <gleam> making it go overboard
[10/24/09:32] <KitchenStaff> you should change the script to delete mp3s that are Madonna
[10/24/09:33] <KitchenStaff> rm -rf Madonna ftw
[10/24/09:34] <gleam> pfft
[10/24/09:37] <KitchenStaff> dangit my server is acting up again

[10/24/11:17] <PSUchris> i installed leopard on an external this morning, but haven't been able to really play with it at all
[10/24/11:17] <PSUchris> i do like the new finder though, cover flow + quick view is great for browsing album art
[10/24/11:20] <gleam> cool
[10/24/11:20] <gleam> does coverflow/quickview work on network shares? do you know?
[10/24/11:22] <PSUchris> yeah it does
[10/24/11:23] <PSUchris> it actually found my network shares and that my ubuntu desktop has remote desktop enabled, with no setup involvd
[10/24/11:24] <PSUchris> it just pops up in the finder under 'shared' like something would in itunes, and you just put in the password. no more cmd-k
[10/24/11:24] <PSUchris> or trying to remember what port vnc was using
[10/24/11:25] <KitchenStaff> argh. i can't take fnet anymore
[10/24/11:26] <gleam> no?

[10/24/11:27] <gleam> i'm satisfied with this channel now
[10/24/11:27] <KitchenStaff> er, didn't fix
[10/24/11:27] <KitchenStaff> yeah - we'll get news if there is any
[10/24/11:27] <gleam> dersteer will pass it on surely
[10/24/11:27] <KitchenStaff> or we make the news ourselves ;)
[10/24/11:29] <PSUchris> the forums they have setup remind me exactly why i never used the forums on oink. Jep and m3unit as mods?
[10/24/11:29] * PSUchris shivers
[10/24/11:29] <gleam> hahahaha
[10/24/11:29] <gleam> you're shitting me

[10/24/11:37] <PSUchris> Aaron
[10/24/11:37] <gleam> hahahahahahaha
[10/24/11:38] <gleam> i bet aaron was interpol
[10/24/11:38] <gleam> apparently form a blog actually written by paine:
[10/24/11:38] <gleam> Edit: A few people have asked me if we logged the IP you snatched things from. The answer is no, we did not log snatch IPs.
[10/24/11:38] <gleam> Edit 2: This is an important one -- Your passwords do NOT need to be changed, they were stored as salted MD5 hashes. All the authorities have is the hashes. The only way they can get the original passwords is via brute force. The chances of that are slim to none if you followed standard good password practice.
[10/24/11:39] <gleam> that first bit is nice
[10/24/11:39] <gleam> i already knew hte second
[10/24/11:44] <PSUchris> hmm, i still proa
