I am interested in using the roads database information ( http://www.fife.gov.uk/roads/index.cfm?fus eaction=aroads.list&sr_town=75&sr_road=a911&findRoad=GO ) for contributing to Openstreetmap ( openstreetmap.org ), which is a freely copyable user-generated map.

This would help give Fife residents a freely printable and shareable map.

Can you tell me if this is possible?

Openstreetmap differs from other maps in that the users of the map are the mapmakers, able to add roads or other missing features using GPS devices and note-taking.

The data would be used to name roads and roundabouts, where the user has taken no notes for their GPS tracks.

The road name would carry a note that the data came from Fife Council.

The map of Fife, in its current state:

Most large towns present minimally, trunk and A roads fairly complete, street-level mapping rare.

A closeup of part of coastal Edinburgh - showing a much more complete mapping: http://openstreetmap.org/?lat=55.97180015708655&lon=-3.258989658694722&zoom=15&layers=B0F

(most streets present and named)
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/FAQ is a list of frequently asked questions about the map.

Many thanks!
