Carl is a real nerd, with no friends and absent minded parents. His only safe haven and closest thing to a friend is the old eccentric professor who lives alone in a strange house outside the city. Unknown to Carl is that the professor is a visitor from the future and a member of the clandestine organization the Illuminati. The role of the professor has been to prevent the malicious organization Equinox from stealing the mystical object “Tears of Time”. The object is a bust portraying a sad exotic creature. Originally inserted in the bust were 12 tear shaped gemstones each enabling the person holding them to travel through time. If all 12 gemstones are placed in the bust it will give the person holding it the power to control space and time. Realizing the potential dangers arising from having such power, the Illuminati decided to hide the gems in different time periods and let the professor guard the bust.
For a long time the secret is kept and no one suspects the professor of being anything but mentally deranged. Yet one day, Equinox agents, lead by the super villain “Il Bastardo”, unexpectedly attack the professor. Alerted by the blazing light from the fire fight, Carl runs to the professor’s house only to find the place tarnished and the old man mortally wounded. The bust is gone and with no one else present the professor confides in the nerdy Carl the legend of the “Tears of Time”. The professor charges Carl with the task of traveling to the future to alert the Illuminati organization of the theft of the bust and gives him a hidden tear shaped gemstone. Carl only reluctantly accepts.
Even though one is in possession of a tear shaped gemstone space travel is not safe without a time machine. Carl finds the time machine and given his nerdy demeanor and lacking self confidence he starts stuttering and loses his temper when the time machine doesn’t respond to his commands. The combination of a somewhat cranky artificial intelligence aboard the time machine and an ill tempered Carl turns out to be disastrous. Instead of the future, Carl ends up in the Viking era where he is ejected from the time machine. Before he can get back to his means of traveling through time, the machine is stolen by a couple of Vikings and taken to the chief inside a Viking compound.
Lost in unknown dangerous territory, Carl must use his wit to get back the time machine to pursue his quest which will lead him through several time periods such as:

Trenches of WWI
The armies of Ghengis Khahn
