HI,

I am applying for the position of NOC Engineer.

I have been working for Zen providing technical support for the past 9 months. Prior to that I was working for EDS, and then Orange Broadband, where I was also providing technical support to their customers. My responsibilities have included performing some basic network diagnostics, both hardware, and software, to work out where a fault lies, and resolve it.

I have been an avid user of Linux for several years, and have been using it exclusively on my home desktop for past 2 years. Through my involvement with Linux, I have been involved with helping write and debug kernel code for the Xbox. My efforts mainly centred on writing drivers for its custom file system. Through this I have learnt many aspects of how Linux works, and feel I am quite competent with using the command line I also have experience in configuring various network daemons, such as bind, apache, mysql, proftpd, samba and opensshd.

Because of my involvement with the Xbox Linux efforts, and my time at university, I have also picked up various scripting skills. I have written several tools in first line for the use of my colleagues and I, the biggest being a fault tracking system (http://shankara.zensupport.co.uk/faulttracker a login for this is DB1). Through these experiences I have become extremely confident in creating PHP scripts, and using SQL from within them to store and retrieve data dynamically. I have also picked up some Bash scripting, and Perl skills.

I do not currently have a full driving license, although I am working towards obtaining it, I am currently taking lessons, and have my practical test booked for November.
