  IIDX
 It's a linux-based partitioning program live CD.

  m00tykinz
i dont see why i should have to partition because i just wanna fucking install linux there is no fucking windows on this pc can i not get passed the partitioning bullshit?

  IIDX
Okay, never mind. Go back to the installer, try again But, when you get to the summary screen before the install, call me

  IIDX
yeah, it does. Really love the polish

  m00tykinz
your computer does not have enough memory to run YaST to continue activate some free space :( continue im guessing?

  IIDX
one moment please hit control alt f9

  m00tykinz
 k done

  IIDX
this is weird...okay - I have an idea. You will need that gparted disk I was talking about.

  m00tykinz
i dont have any blank cds fuck this, im going to go smoke a cigarette

  IIDX
 oh great....

  m00tykinz
 im getting super pissed

  IIDX
What I was going to suggest for you to do, was use the live CD to make the partitions yourself, making the root and swap partitions then, then having Yast use the swap and partitions from there on the install.

  m00tykinz
well i have an idea to do that can i throw my hd back in my external and do it from there on this box using a mount of the live cd?

  IIDX
 hmm...

  m00tykinz
wait i tried the fdisk again and i think it worked ill typ eout what it says the number of cylendars for this disk is 9729. there is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger then 1024,and could in certain setups cause prbolems with 1. software that runs at boot time

  IIDX
 just hit yes

  m00tykinz
 2. booting and partitioning softar from other os's command : what do i hit

  IIDX
 one moment hit p

  m00tykinz
 and then?

  IIDX
 tell me whatscha got

  m00tykinz
 disk /dev/hda: 80.0 gb, (number in bytes fuck that its too long) 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylendars, units = cylendars of 16065, * 512 = 8225280 bytes device boot hda start 1 end 9728 blocks 71848161 id 7 system hpfs/ntfs command :

  IIDX
NTFS, that explains it. Delort it by pressing d

  m00tykinz
selected partition one command : what i put now commander iidx sir?

  IIDX
okay, one moment okay, hit n

  m00tykinz
 e = extended  p = primary partition 1-2  1-4  scuse me

  IIDX
 primary

  m00tykinz
 so p then

  IIDX
yeah, just gotta calcuate something this sec, wait a sec Okay, first partition will be 100mb

  m00tykinz
okay so i hit p now right? cause ive been waiting

  IIDX
 yea, then, listen carefully

  m00tykinz

  IIDX

  m00tykinz
it says nothing about space it says cylendars apperently even looking at that word i cant spell it

  IIDX
okay, use the first one given just hit enter

  m00tykinz
typed 100m when asked cylendar size and now i get command

  IIDX
Okay, do N again, go with 2, hit enter

  m00tykinz
 did that

  IIDX
 For size, go with +77900M

  m00tykinz
cylendar i just hit enter right?

  IIDX
yeah, for first +77900M for last. That will be your root partition

  m00tykinz
 value out of range

  IIDX
 say what?

  m00tykinz
do you mean 7900m cause that will fit but not with the extra 7 ?

  IIDX
that's only 7gb, is that the 80gb hard drive?

  m00tykinz
yea its not reading m really its reading cylendars dude

  IIDX

  m00tykinz
okay well i did the second one so what i do now

  IIDX

  m00tykinz
like you know the gb stuff and heads and shit right? you want me to tell you the uhm device boot stuff?

  IIDX

  m00tykinz
 /dev/hda1 start 1 end 100 blocks 803210+ id 83 linux /dev/hda2 start 1001 end 9572 blocks 76083640 id 83 linux

  IIDX
 1002 I mean

  m00tykinz
why 1002? im leaving like a 900 cylendar blank there

  IIDX
isn't that where your first partition ends according to the output?

  m00tykinz
no 101 i said oops extra zero

  IIDX
oh yeah, whatever yeah, start there. make the end at +79872M

  m00tykinz
okay so to make it end there what would i put

  IIDX
 +79872M I mean 78000 +78000M

  m00tykinz

  IIDX
 +78000M for the end

  m00tykinz
 done

  IIDX
Okay, do n, partition 3, primary, use the default start point, then make it +1GB.

  m00tykinz
value out of range and i did what you said :(

  IIDX
or +800MB or wait, p again give me the 2nd partition line only

  m00tykinz
well how the fuck do i get out of this everything is out of range and it keeps asking

  IIDX

  m00tykinz
start 101 end 9504 blocks 76180230 id 03 system linux

  IIDX
 okay, t, partition 3, type in 82

  m00tykinz
 changed partition 3 to

  IIDX
this will turn that last one into linux swap

  m00tykinz
 linux swap/solaris okay done

  m00tykinz
 lol should be i guess

  IIDX
Note, when you get to this list of things, be sure to check if the partitioning will be using the existing partitions.

  m00tykinz
new installation, or update or other options

  IIDX
new installation are you at installation settings yet?

  m00tykinz
 well im at timezone

  IIDX
okay, almost there :) after that it's KDE/Gnome selection

  m00tykinz

  IIDX
Okay, SUSE's implementation of Gnome is quite awesome

  m00tykinz
 SETTINGS

  IIDX
 Okay, what's under Partitioning?

  m00tykinz

  IIDX
is that actually in the list?

  m00tykinz
yea thats what is there need proof hold on damnit wife took the phone no proof and all i can select is next

  IIDX

  m00tykinz
k accept proposal to do that

  IIDX
 click create custom partition setup

  m00tykinz
base partition setup on this proposal oh okay

  IIDX
if all is working, our 3 partitions should show up

  m00tykinz
it just shows my hard drive, and the selection of custom partition

  IIDX
okay, for hard disk, select the first one.

  m00tykinz
 shows partitions

  IIDX
now, check all 3, and uncheck Seperate Home Partition

 then next?

  IIDX
 yeah

  m00tykinz
okay well if i click accept i have to create a swap partition then a root partition now

 WELCOME TO OPEN SUSE

  IIDX
if you wanna see the cruddy slideshow, keep it there. if you want a more detailed breakdown on what's going on, go to details. nice to see you've faced your fear of text-based partitioning

  m00tykinz
o.o i have never done that before honestly partitions are the one thing that make me shit myself and move state

  IIDX
I felt like I was going to poop out bricks

  m00tykinz
was it hard talking a noob into text based partitioning?

  IIDX
sorta, but least we made it :)
