Today I’ll be telling you about my move from New York to Florida. I’ll explain what I did in New York, and why I miss what I did in New York. It also explains friends I had in New York, and what I did with my friends. Along with that, it explains how I got to Florida, and what I did on my way here. It also explains who was living in New York with me, and who I was leaving behind.
I was in complete awe. My parents told me we were moving to Florida! I was in 2nd grade, 7 years old and had already made some good friends in New York. My good friend Isaac, who I had known since nursery school was one of them. He lived on a farm, where his mom grew shitake mushrooms, and he had an awesome tree fort. I had even helped Isaac prepare the logs that the mushrooms would grow on. The garden at Isaacs had many different vegetables, I remember filling my pockets with sugar snaps and eating them while riding my bike through the cornfield to a small brook. I have very fond memories of my times with Isaac.
We were about to leave behind my grand parents, aunts and uncles, and 5 cousins. I had lived in that house in New York since the time I was born. I wasn’t ready to leave the house. Even though we were moving to Florida, I was glad we’d have our New York house to come back to, or so I thought. Six months later, my parents found a buyer and decided to sell the house. When we first moved to Florida, I was lonely with no friends. Eventually, I met great new friends. Bryan is one of my friends; I’ve known him ever since the day we moved down to Florida. Sooner or later, I decided that the move to Florida wasn’t that bad after all. Only one downside... There is no more snow!
When we were about to leave for the final trip, the ride to Florida, I was wondering... How would we get there? Were we going to drive, fly, or what? I asked my mom, and she said we would be driving! I couldn’t bear the thought of the long perilous journey I had ahead of me. We started driving early in the morning, probably around 8 a.m. About 1 hour later, we arrived in New Jersey. It was getting busy at that time, with all the cars buzzing around us. About every 5 minutes, we would pass over train tracks. Also, we saw a train yard, with about 20 or 30 different tracks throughout it. Sooner or later, we were in North Carolina. We were planning to stop in South Carolina at night and stay at my aunt and uncles house. It seemed like South Carolina was the longest state ever! I would just count down the exits, one by one, hoping one would come soon. At around the 100th mile marker, I saw a sign for “South of the Border”, a theme park at the border of North and South Carolina. Every couple miles, they would have neat signs stating how many miles until the border. Some signs were electronic, some mechanical. The mechanical ones had sheep jumping over the moon, and other cool things like that. Late at night, we passed the border. The theme park was all shut down and dark, so there was nothing to see. We stopped there for the night. When we woke up, we said goodbye to our aunt and uncle and set out on the road again. After about 3 hours of driving, we got into Florida. We hit Jacksonville right around rush hour, and there were cars going every which way. About 3 more hours later, we arrived at our house.
Anyways, that’s my essay, explaining fun times I had in New York, friends I had, and how I got to Florida. I am still currently living in Florida, same house and all. I frequently visit New York, particularly over the summer. I also visit my relatives in South Carolina often, because they’re a lot closed than New York.
