Hi jefferai,

as I promised yesterday, I am posting you my experience with switching to ATF. After you logout from IRC, for a long time I was worrying that it was mistake to migrate, bexouse I wrongly though, that all my collection (or better tags) are corrupted. But it was based on wrong idea, so lets go step by step.

1) editing amarokrc, restarting amarok and full rescan

when my rescan tooks about 30 seconds before, writing ATF tags seems really slow.

I started rescan at 23:54 and at 00:04 (ten minutes later) the process bar was showing 16%

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
btw. meanwhile htop shows me:

26887 radfoj 30 -4 63612 32024 13824 R 90.8 4.9 10:26.01 amarokcollectionscanner --nocrashhandler -p -r /usr/local/games
/rados/music_burned /mnt/mandrake/opt/musika
/home/radfoj/NEW/musika /mnt/win_c/Music /usr/local/games/rados/mp3 mix /usr/local/games/rados/music
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wasnt watching progress carefully, but last percent I remember was 53%. Than first problem occuers.

2) GUI of amarok dissapeared but process amarokcollectionscanner continued with taking all of CPU resources

this I realized at 00:16 ... after few minutes and asking on IRC what to do with it I killed that process and fired up amarok

3) I was wrongly concerned about collection_scan.log

after situation when I killed amarokcollectionscanner, I remember about collection_scan.log, which seems to be good point when to look if scaning crashes, so looking there and this song was written there:

Madeleine Peyroux - Careless love/03 - don't cry baby.mp3

there was also another point which makes me afraid that I have borked collection (songs). after killing scan process as mentioned above. And it was fact, that after starting amarok up and rescaning, during watching progress of rescan I could see how it was growing from 0% to 90% together with active cancel button (X), but 90/91 was last number I saw, then cancel button greyed for two seconds and progressbar dissapeared.

Also on IRC nobody gives me exact answer, what it means, if there is song written in collection_scan.log, but probably that the song is somehow corrupted and couldnt be scaned

So I start move that song to another directory, which is not watched - rescan - another song appeared in collection_scan.log - I moved it away and again and again .... progressbar was still stopping at 90% and I was much nervous, that its still failing and its borked. Then I started from collection setting start to unmark watched folders. Till unmarking everything. BUT HOPE IT WASNT FAILING. Why:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is file collection_scan.files which collects all scaned files. I set amarok to watch one folder with 3 songs and there were:

songA
songB
songC

There is also collection_scan.log file, in which in the same time were:

songC

After removing songC from collection, the first file changed dislike

songA
songB

and second file changed to

songB

In my opinion, in collection_scan.log is written last song, which was tried to be scan, but I dont tells anything about fact, if succesfully or not.

And second point why I think it was mistake to care about song mentioned in collection_scan.log?

Careless love/03 - don't cry baby.mp3 (this was the file which was in log after I killed amarokcollectionscanner) is playing well right now, also stats are kept, although I moved it several times from/to collection
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Same for few other songs I tried to check, if stats are kept after moving or removing and adding back to collection. Whopiii ... I am really happy with ATF, becouse it was boring before to loose stats about played songs, scores and so after moving album to different location. Especially when I was doing it quite often.

Thanks for you work, and its no problem for me test it more, but dont know how, right now. If so, let me know.

Bye, radfoj
