This is mainly aimed at Rolf, but I want to hear everyones opinion on it anyways, I expect a lot of disagreement but that is fine with me.
With the new post on the blog, a lot of people were giddy inside when they saw Rolf will be working on the fight fix. After what seemed like waiting for Duke Nukem Forever, Rolf posted a spec of information in the blog saying hes actually working on the fight fix. Were all happy to hear this, but of course there is a bad side to fight fix but...
People have had enough with you nerfing and changing everything, then realizing it was way over the top then and fixing it. Then there are changes that were completely unneeded, I mean the only true content upgrade in ages were the mailbox's (useless really) and the Colossus statue (also useless), but that
is for another discussion.
Examples:
* Taming timer was increased. (killed taming, aggravated everyone)
* You now gain less skill from shooting arrow shafts compared to real arrows. (killed all chances of getting archery above 40, once again aggravation ensues)
* Taming timer was halved (fixes the "over nerf")
* Creatures will no longer attack large groups of players, and hyenas/boars/gorillas will not hunt the same way either (very rarely works)
*Max fatigue time was lowered from 12 to 8 hours max. After the weekend we will see if it can be lowered further.(This affected a minority of players, but the problems could have been completly avoided with a beta server)
*Removed the possibility to spawn at an ally for now since it was abused. The spawn points outside your village is calculated somewhat different to make them less prone to spawn camping. (This was not needed at all, of course I guess if you consider being able to help your friends in any reasonable amount of time abuse then it is a problem, but it really just makes the game harder for everyone then it already was + it was bugged for the first week, you could spawn at villages across the map but not a homestead 50 tiles away)
*You should now be able to spawn at allied settlements if you die within 50 tiles of their center. As an effect of this you may only be invited to join another village once every 24 hours. Becoming mayor by deed giveaway will still work any number of times. (Bugged prevented people from even joining villages, eventually the bugs were hammered out)
*Dropping dirt and sand will now only change rock, sand, dirt, packed dirt and steppe tiles. (Unnecessary, everyone, EVERYONE thought it was perfectly fine)
*You may now construct mailboxes. They need a rare spiritual enchantment in order to work though. (*fine print* but you may not send anything of any use, anything you can send will probably cost 1s no matter what ql and you cannot send between servers)
*Shields will now be effective against arrows even when moving. If it was made a special action you would still be prone. (Ended up being the classic example of an over nerf, completely avoidable with a beta server)
*War arrows were made easier to make and improve (Another step in the right direction)
*You will now only block with the shield against archers if the archers is on your left side or slightly ahead to the right. Standing still increases the chance of blocking.(Fixes the nerf..)
*Settlement guards should help eachother better outside the deed now (im sure everyone on wild realizes how impossibly hard it will be to raid a s10+ deed now, but I say it stays until the fight fix is in, once again beta server...)
What im trying to say is, we need a beta server, and EXTENSIVE testing of the next changes to fighting (or anything involving PVP). If you plan on reseting fight skill you should let players know so it isn't such a slap to the face when people who have spent ages to get 60 fighting are down to 30...
People are now to the point of quitting and or have already quit over your constant lack of testing changes. I hate bitching, but I also hate watching good friends quit over because of completly avoidable problems, im sure a lot of people can agree with me on this point. Also I know I pointed out all the bad things, there were good changes but they do not make up for any of the above. Now insult away!
