Firemaking Guide
Firemaking is the art of… making fires. It is a useful skill to have as the higher it is the better higher levelled logs you can use. Imagine this, you are fishing and the only tree close by is a yew tree. You desperately need to cook these fish as you are poisoned with 10HP left. Well, with your trusty tinderbox and an axe in hand, you could save your life whilst that guy next to you who only has 10 firemaking falls dead.
OK, a bit unrealistic but oh well. It can also make you money! With Mort’ton came a new mini-game that uses firemaking. You get the shade remains and burn them using pyre logs. Look for a guide of the Shade’s of Mort’ton mini-game to find out more.
First off, to do any firemaking you need a tinderbox or any bow (excpet crystal)

It isn’t unusual for people to cut their own logs to burn. So for you might need a woodcutting axe:

So with your tinderbox in your inventory, use your tinderbox on a log which you have the required level to use. Levels are described later on in the guide. Good places you firemake are also described later.

Good places to burn logs for training are at:
• Seer’s Village
• Port Phasmatys
• Varrock
These places I have chose because of the lack of obstacles to get in your way whilst firemaking. Just take into consideration you take one pace to the west after every fire you make, and things such as daises cannot have a fire made on top of them.
For the best XP in training this skill, stop burning a certain type of logs as soon as you can burn another. Don’t go burning normal logs to 99, always be moving on.

The shades in Mort’ton leave remains that can be cremated. For this you need a certain type of log and Sacred Oil. To obtain Sacred Oil use Olive Oil and the Temple’s Sacred Fire when your Sanctity is at 10% or more. To find out more about this mini-game look for a guide (If it has been written yet).

Lanterns and Lamps
Lanterns and Lamps are used so you can enter dark places (such as that in Lumbridge Cellar) safely and without being hurt. It is always recommended to take a tinderbox with you in case you extinguish it by accident.
Lantern Frames and glass for it require the Smithing and Crafting skill, or you can just buy an unlit lantern and light it yourself.
An ‘exposed’ candle (Just a candle on its own) can cause deadly explosions in places like the Lumbridge slayer cave, so it is always necessary to bring a tinderbox incase it blows up and goes out. The safest thing to use is a Bullseye Lantern.

Candle’s can be bought from the candle maker at the entrance to the Lumbridge Slayer Cave in Lumbridge Swamp. They can also be bought at Camelot for much cheaper at the candle shop.
The candle lantern needs a candle used on it for it to work. It can also take the black candle used in the Merlin’s Crystal quest, but it doesn’t stack on top of lanterns with white candles.
The Oil Lamp can be used as a light source, but put an Iron Frame on it to convert it into an Oil Lantern. (Requires level 26 Smithing to make the frame and level 26 Crafting to assemble it.
The Oil Lamp / Lantern and Bullseye Lantern require oil to be lit. Use some oil on the lamp and then use a tinderbox on it. If extinguished the oil can be re-lit and doesn’t have to be replaced.
To make a Bullseye Lantern, make a Steel frame and a Lantern Lense on each other. (Level 49 smithing to make the frame and 49 Crafting to assemble it. Get the Glass Lense by blowing glass into one). Use some Oil on a Bullseye Lantern and light it using a tinderbox. To make a Sapphire / Emerald Bullseye Lantern by using a Sapphire / Emerald on an Extinguished Bullseye Lantern.
To obtain Mining Helmet’s, kill Level 11 Cave Goblin miners in the ‘Lost Tribe Dungeon’ underneath Lumbridge Castle. Use a tinderbox on a mining helmet to light it.
Making oil
To make oil you do:
1. Collect a Swamp Tar (1 Tar for each oil needed)
2. Take your Tar and Lantern to the Chemist in Rimmington
3. Use the Tar on the sill in the middle of the Chemists house.
4. Use your lantern on the oil sill to fill it with oil.
Once oil has been used on a Lantern, if it is extinguished it doesn’t have to be replaced.
