Abandoned Projects

This page describes incomplete or abandoned projects on the CSE website.

Course Reporting
Course Reporting (Ticket 37) was to be a system of keeping track of course materials (exams, quizzes, syllabi, textbooks employed, &c.), both to replace the paper-based course reports and make it easier for incoming instructors and faculty.

Course reporting is essentially complete. The only things to do to make it active would be to open up the pages which access it (/support/staff/coursereport.php and /support/staff/ta_upload.php) and then raise awareness about using it. I haven't worked on it in like three years.

Associated Pages:

    * /support/staff/coursereport.php (main access page)
    * /support/staff/ta_upload.php (auxiliary access page)
    * /support/staff/cr_help.php (help page for project)
    * /admin/.securehtp.php (generates .htpasswd file for secure area; crons weekly)

Associated tables: course, course_ids, course_material, ta and textbook (www database)

Library: report_lib.php (~700 lines)

Software Requesting
We always get a bunch of requests for new software, typically between one week before and three weeks after the start of the semester, which is extremely inconvenient, especially for Windows machines. I wrote something that would keep track of the software available on different systems and in different labs, and allow people to request new software for their classes.

As far as I know, this project works, but I don't think software requesting has been implemented anywhere. A page was set up to keep track of what we currently had, and it was never filled out by the people responsible for the software to any real degree. I haven't worked on it in like two years.

Associated Pages: /admin/.csesoftware.php (allows for tracking installed software; IT staff only)

Associated tables: component, software, software_request, system, system_responsibility, system_requestor, syste_requestor_group (candidacy)

Library: software_lib.php (~550 lines)

Course Software, Labs, Accounts, Instructors Tracking
Another system for tracking software, this one kept track of what software and what labs were being used by what course, who was teaching the course, and what accounts students enrolled in the course got.

This one is less complete. There is a page that shows the last recorded values for course software, instructors, labs, &c., and there's a place where you can update what software, instructors, labs, &c. are used by the courses, but there's no place to add new courses, add new software, add new labs, and or anything like that. Not only is that not implemented, but the functionality does not exist as far as I know. I haven't worked on this in like two years.

Associated pages:

    * /support/staff/software_table.php (displays what's in the database)
    * /admin/infoman/coso_edit.php (allows you to link labs, accounts, software to course)

Associated tables: course_accounts, course_accounts_map, course_course, course_lab, course_labmap, course_software, course_software_map (candidacy)

Library: new_software_lib.php (~200 lines)

RT Stats
This project was to track statistics for the Request Tracker system. Things like how many tickets people had open, the average turnaround for a ticket, the average response time for a ticket, and so on.

The library may or may not be complete. There is no access page to my knowledge. I haven't worked on this in like two years.

Associated pages: none?

Associated tables: everything in the RT3 database

Library: rtstats.php (~400 lines)

CSE Picture Gallery
This project was going to be a little homebrew gallery system, to keep track of images taken around the building that we could display on the front page for some reason.

the project appears to be relatively complete, but also doesn't work. I haven't worked on it in like a year.

Associated pages:

    * /admin/infoman/gallery.php (gallery acces page, doesn't work)
    * /admin/infoman/gallman.php (gallery management page, works)
    * /info/images/gallery (gallery image directory)

Associated tables: collection, gallery (candidacy)

Library: gallery_lib.php (~250 lines)

Stuff Nate was working on
Nate was evidently working on some stuff before he left.

I have no idea of the status of these projects. I've never touched them.

Associated pages

    * /support/services/.account_app.php (online CSE account application)
    * /support/services/.user.php (online form to change password)

Associated tables: none?

Libraries: none

ABET Surveys
This project is a bit different from the others mentioned. It has been implemented fully and is in use, but has additional unused functionality which is not in use and has not been fully tested. Ticket 1787 has the background.

Originally, this was supposed to be able to accept answers to an ABET survey, from both former students and employers of former students. Now it accepts answers from a standard survey, only from employers, and rather than authenticating individually, everyone uses the same hash to take the survey (so it could be exploited, although stats are not derived from the answerrs). Functionality exists to use individual authentication and ask questions of former studetns as well as employers, but this is turned off. Functionality to change the contents of the survey does not exist.

Associated pages:

    * /support/staff/abet_responses.php (displays the responses given to the survey (in use))
    * /info/.cmpstusurvey.php (the actual survey, for students (unused))
    * /info/.cmpempsurvey.php (the actual survey, symlink to above file (in use))
    * /support/staff/.abet_upload.php (space to upload list of surveyees to be emailed (unused))

Associated tables: abet, abet_hash, emp_answer, emp_answer_group, emp_question, stu_answer, stu_question (candidacy)

library: abet_lib.php (~450 lines)

430W Laptop Tracking
Apparently at some time information about the 430W laptops was to be collected, since there are tables for it. No code exists; the tables can probably be dropped, but likely never will be.

Associated tables: 430W_group, 430W_laptop, 430W_student (candidacy)
