<trixter__> FreeSWITCH[tm] has done 3000 concurrent channels with media on
hardware now a year old
<yannick_d> we have more than 150 000 subscription to ekiga.net
<yannick_d> well, this raise more issues... CPU...
<trixter__> its a guess that with current modern cpus you should be able to do
6000 channels per chassis, both because there are 2x the cores as
well as 50% additional cycles per core
<trixter__> granted it wont scale linearly, I also gave plenty of room for
extra overhead
<yannick_d> hum... more than 130 000 actually
<trixter__> a dual woodcrest 2.0 GHz has done the 3000 concurrent channels
<yannick_d> k
<trixter__> a dual clovertown (quad instead of dual core) at 3.0GHz should be
able to at least double your channel capacity
<trixter__> but it depends on what exactly you are doing with those channels,
the test was to play back a file
<trixter__> and iirc it was a wav so there was slight transcoding going on
<yannick_d> hum... I think we can't do that...
<trixter__> do what?
<yannick_d> i'll see with damien when he comes back from holidays
<yannick_d> we rely on sponsor.
<trixter__> a dual clovertown at 3.0GHz is what $6k now? that makes it
$1/port total cost for hardware. not a bad initial cost
<trixter__> ahh
