Hello.
I am having an issue with using the router with windows vista.
The router is on a network of 3 pcs. 2 being xp. The router and internet is working fine on the XPs.
I have recently purchased a new computer with windows vista and I am unable to get internet access on it, it can however share files.
I can ping the XP computers, but I cannot ping the IP of the router, this leads me to believe that the router is ignoring the windows vista pc. I have spent hours going through sites on google, with no luck.
The vista pc is not in the attached devices list.
Please help me resolve this issue so the internet works on the vista pc.
Thanks,
Jack.

Hello.
Unfortunately the vista doesn''t have wireless capabilities currently, it is wired.
I tried pinging the LAN ip of the vista computer via the routers page with no success.
Unfortunately I am not home at the moment. Unfortunately as the router ignores the vista pc i cannot do automatically assign ip, I have manually inputted the ipv4 data to be:
ip: 192.168.0.6
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.2 (router)
dns primary: 192.168.0.2 (router).
From memory, I can confirm that this was what ipconfig outputted at the time.
I have also tried putting the gateway and dns primary as the ip of an online xp pc, this semi-worked but continued to have issues with the primary dns and still failed to connect to the internet.
Also, I upgraded the router to the latest firmware. And installed windows vista drivers of the router on the vista pc.
I just cannot understand why this does not work, it''s as if the router is completely ignoring the vista computer...
What else can we do to resolve this?

I forgot to add:
We have unticked ipv6 and disabled ipv6 via regedit.

Dear Jack,
My name is Thamilarasi and I am following up on your support case. Thank you for writing back.
After reviewing the information that you provided, I think I have a better understanding of your issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try:
1) Please give Primary DNS as 4.2.2.2 and Secondary as 4.2.2.1 on vista to go online.
2) Now try to ping 192.168.0.1, 4.2.2.2 and yahoo.com
Please try the steps given below to enable file sharing:
Please check the IP address of both the computer to find the IP address follow the steps mentioned below:
1. Click Run from the start menu.
2. If it is Windows XP or Windows2000, please type 'cmd' in the textbox and click OK.
3. For windows98 or Windows98SE or Windows ME, please type 'command' in the textbox and press OK.
4. This will open black DOS window on the screen. In this window type 'ipconfig' and press enter.
5. IP address should be of the format: 192.168.1.x (or) 192.168.0.x and the default gateway should be: 192.168.1.1 (or) 192.168.0.1
6. Go to another computer and open the DOS window by typing cmd on Run prompt.
7. Then in DOS black window type in ping 192.168.x.x (IP address you got from another computer) and check for reply
8. If you are getting 4 replies, then computer are able to communicate between them.
9. Then check share your printer and check for printout.
If you are getting request time out while ping the IP address, please disable all the firewall on both the computers and check for print out.
If you are still unable to share files, please follow the link to know more about file sharing in Win XP:

Hello,
I have followed your steps, even though 90% of it doesn''t apply to me...
From following your steps, nothing has changed.
I can still ping a lan computer, but cannot ping the router, or get the router to ping the vista computer.
All firewalls are OFF and have been since the beginning.
Now the error I get is: "cannot communicate with the primary dns (4.2.2.2)"
Thanks,
Jack.

The problem lies with the router I believe.
The router doesn''t want to communicate with the vista computer.
What can I do?

I have already tried that, but because the router is ignoring the vista computer, it then doesn''t have dhcp and breaks.
