[07:41] Naked_Pope: i'll read a lot the next days
[07:42] Naked_Pope: because i might be trying to write door / compass code myself
[07:42] Naked_Pope: the compass resources out there don't work and it might be harder to fix them instead of beginning from scratch
[07:42] ~LK~: sounds like a interesting idea
[07:43] Naked_Pope: the doors.... not sure. they' don't work in mp mode
[07:43] Naked_Pope: sp = fine
[07:43] Naked_Pope: maybe i'll better try to fix them
[07:43] Naked_Pope: we'll see
[07:43] Naked_Pope: doors should be more important for you so i should probably start with them
[07:44] ~LK~: cool, though i guess its important if they work in sp for now
[07:44] Naked_Pope: they do
[07:44] Naked_Pope: no idea what's wrong with mp yet
[07:45] ~LK~: thats what i ment, sp stuff is more important right now. dont feel stressed to work on mp stuff unless its needs to be done as well now for coding purposes
[07:46] Naked_Pope: there are two ways to have doors
[07:46] Naked_Pope: one is done with c++ code (the much better approach imo and that waht i tried)
[07:46] Naked_Pope: and doors made with scripting
[07:46] Naked_Pope: scripted doors have several disadvantages
[07:47] Naked_Pope: but who knows....
[07:47] Naked_Pope: would be bad to change later from c++ to scripted doors i guess
[07:47] Naked_Pope: just in case... you know?
[07:47] Naked_Pope: would be a hard change that requires maps to be changed
[07:48] Naked_Pope: want to change 100 doors? :x
[07:50] ~LK~: lol
[07:50] ~LK~: c++ would be better I'd think.. meaning faster code.. but I dont know much about that
[07:51] Naked_Pope: yes, c++ should be 10-100 times faster (that's what i read somewhere)
[07:51] Naked_Pope: and there's another thing to care about
[07:51] Naked_Pope: network traffic
[07:51] ~LK~: yea
[07:52] Naked_Pope: if one player opens a door, the information needs to be sent to all others
[07:52] ~LK~: Ive been wondering how good there server network thing we talked about is
[07:52] Naked_Pope: you can easily have a laggy mp with bad code in a place like that
[07:53] Naked_Pope: oh i think the newtorking code is pretty good
[07:53] Naked_Pope: should be fast
[07:53] ~LK~: there may not be much we can do about that. It's common for alot of mp games.. doors seem to be an issue
[07:53] Naked_Pope: but i'd like to test it anyway soon
[07:53] Naked_Pope: there are different ways to hanlde doors though
[07:54] Naked_Pope: you can update data several times per second (new angle update) or just send the information to clients "door 17 is opening with speed 43". this would be only one network packet holding enough information (i guess)
[07:55] ~LK~: yup.. maybe mp doors wont be as robust as sp.. dunno
[07:55] Naked_Pope: and tgea's network code seems to have different priority objects as well
[07:55] Naked_Pope: so..... give me time.... A LOT OF TIME :P
