Testing Miro r4801 on OS X.
1. Install:
- only tried updating from previous nightlies, which is OK.
2. Startup – Shutdown – Min – Max:
- Channel/Watched folder views do not remember their last position. Try sorting by filename, restart Miro and it will be reverted to default.
- On a related note, also note the very cumbersome and extremely bad habit of resetting views after playing a video and returning to the last view. It should retain it's last state (scrollbar position, search results still there, etc).
3. Channel Guide:
- Miro Guide does not remember it's last position and return to the home page after clicking another item in the sidebar. Simply reloads.
- Scroll arrows don't work in the Miro Guide.
- Auto-scrolling of the featured channels don't work in the Miro Guide.
- Backspace doesn't work immediately as it does in Miro Windows. I have to click the page because it doesn't have focus.
- When u first mouse-over the scroll arrows on either side they disappear for a short while before reappearing.
- After the Miro Guide initially loads, and you click on e.g. Popular, the back arrow won't work. For consecutive click-troughs it will work, as well as passing by Home while clicking through, but it will not go to the Home Page. This also doesn't work with backspace.
- Additionally below my results of trying to use a custom Channel Guide with http://www.digg.com/podcasts some time ago.
Miro Remarks:
- Allow renaming of the custom guides in the sidebar, rename menu item does not work
- Allow reordering of the guides, first in list should be default
Behavior Wish-list:
- Suppres any kind of automatic pop-ups not initiated by the user
- Suppres user initiated external links and open these in Miro
- Suppres user initiated actions currently spawning external loading as in using a search box
- Maybe launch user-initiated javascript pop-ups (since many try force pop-up dimenstion), not links, in the default browser
- Suppres launching exernal viewer for rss, as well as xml files and open with Miro, not starting downloads as to preview descriptions of episodes and then some
Miro Wish-list:
- A basic native navigation bar
- Inclusion of forward, backward, refresh/stop, copyable url field buttons
- Inclusion of open in browser button, status spinner, submit to Miro Guide button
- The above mentioned submit to Miro Guide button could launch a native form or maybe even one of those shiny jsquery lightbox-like overlays where one could input all required information.
4. Search:
- The Russian (?) query didn't return any search results. Not clear whether it should have yielded results.
- The search box in the lower left corner is misleading since the search view sets the default search engine in between restarts. To illustrate, do a search eg on Revver, leave the results page as is, change the search engine in the UI to Google Video, restart. The default engine in the UI will be Revver.
- Search Channels, it is not clear how Miro searches. To illustrate, subscribe to the diggnation feed, create a search channel for june 7, and it will find a lot of items. Did not investigate any further... AND OR "search term", how does it work?
5. Playback:
- As mentioned in 2. "On a related note, also note the very cumbersome and extremely bad habit of resetting views after playing a video and returning to the last view. It should retain it's last state (scrollbar position, search results still there, etc)."
- When in fullscreen mode, sometimes the controls don't appear when there is mouse pointer activity. Don't know yet when exactly since I forgot to pay attention to it, but this is probably during continuous playback in fullscreen after it continues to the next video.
6. My collection:
- Once in a while there are duplicate items. Known problem.
- Audio-only files without a feed should have an icon to differentiate with videos.
7. Share:
- Posting to Reddit & Delicious do not spawn a new Opera tab for me.
- Double clicking the Share button by accident starts playback of the video. Same goes for the Details button. This is not a problem, more a discovery ;)
8. New Videos:
- There should be a way to mark videos as watched as well, since there is a way to mark them as unwatched.
9-18. Not Tested.
