  1.     As some of you may be aware, Debian is undergoing a menu system transition with the introduction of menu 2.1.35 (0).  Given the large number of packages potentially affected, and that this has been introduced after DebianImportFreeze (1), I suggest that we do not adopt any menu changes introduced in Debian as a result of this transition until after the 7.10 release.  While most of our users rely on .desktop files for their menus, we do provide a "Debian" menu, disabled by default, containing the Debian menu hierachy, and our users are probably best served with this in a consistant state.
  2.
  3.     In order to defer this change to the next release, the following actions should be taken:
  4.
  5. 1)  Any synchronisation requests should be reviewed to ensure they do not include changes to the menu hierarchy.  If there are changes, the desired Debian changes should be merged instead.
  6.
  7. 2)  Any merge processing should be reviewed to ensure the merge will not include changes to the menu hierarchy.
  8.
  9. 3)  Bugs filed against the Debian menu hierarchy in Ubuntu should not be forwarded to Debian without review of (and possibly reference to) the new Debian hierachy.
  10.
  11. 4)  During the next release cycle, any packages only in Ubuntu should be reviewed to ensure they follow the new menu guidelines.
