I think karl hoffman makes a valid point in his post, the human factor of communication breakdown is a very real problem not easily addressed.
The large majority of communication is done using none vebal signals as stated in karl hoffmans post earlier and in the verbal itself there are many layers of communication that are not directly said such as intonation to indicate approval or lack of, sarcasm and the like. It is extreemly difficult to convey these accurately in there natural state of face to face as anyone who ever had to say "thats not what i meant by..." will testify, also the communications error can go undetected by all parties involved as all have assumed that they have understood despite the the fact that they may come from different cultures and professions " Eg the meanings of word "
Across several mediums the "lost in translation effect or chinese whispers" only become more pronounced as more of the original meaning is lost or added to every time the message is converted to another medium or translated through another person, unfortunately there is no easy way to predict or control this so for the the purposes of this senario could be said to be wild.
Also it seems important to note that people and especially creative individuals are likely to clash over unexpected differences on there visualisation of the content this is very much dependant on the preferances of the writers themselves and there social dynamic, given enough time and observation this can be subject to some level of control and predictability. However i find it unlikely that anyone would invest the recources required to do this. So for this senario this also should be classed as unpredictable and uncontrolable.
It seems only fair however to state that all of these unpredictable and sometimes irrational behaviours are very much centered around the task of creative writing which is limited to the rules and structure of the genre ie plot and character creation techniques and criteria, although there are many different styles of how to accomplish this all all must adhere to it for the piece to make sense to the end reader/user.
Having some contact with a few writers involved in fiction and fan fiction writing i find it odd that this group has no apparent editor or editorial process it seems a needless generator of uncontrolable yet predictable chaos or wildness and there apparent decision to try to function without someone in this role to combat such problems as chronology, structure and formating is irrational or at best naive.
