Mission Statement

We aim to bring the Linux community together and focus on persuading governments and corporations to start including the Linux platform in policy decisions. Linux is gaining market share daily due to efforts by the Free and Open Source Software community (FOSS) to consolidate methods into a more organised and practical approach. Linux distributions are now easier than ever to install and maintain, making them a more viable option for people who previously felt their only solutions involved proprietary systems such as Microsoft Windows.

However, despite the growing popularity of Linux, Government and Corporate strategies are still failing to include FOSS solutions in their policy decisions. Schools and Universities still operate in a primarily Microsoft centric fashion, the entertainment industry still excludes the Linux community from the vast majority of their products and services (such as DVD playback and IPTV services), the computer games industry continues to ignore the Linux market and hardware manufacturers still discriminate against Linux users by only providing drivers for proprietary platforms.

We feel the only way to change this situation is to start a consolidated movement by the Linux users of the world, to inform these institutions that we are an important segment of the technology market and that we should be given equal access to their products and services. We plan to do this through letter writing campaigns, rallies, petitions, educational resources and political campaigning as well as any other strategies that will make our voices heard.

By encouraging the Linux community to actively take part in these campaigns, we can prevail to bring Linux into the 21st century, a situation which benefits everyone by encouraging innovation and opening up technology to the masses, irrespective of their financial means.
