Caution, I am pretty uninformed on this topic and I would only like to post some general thoughts relating to this issue.

So I thought about this issue on my own before hearing about the GOLD position. One advantage to being away is a lack of bias by other voices early in the thinking process. I wondered, should we help FAN? Well, of course not, we'll get raped. But then who would ever help us? Who would help an alliance who, when their best friend got attacked, remained neutral? That, to me at least, prevents us from ever having true allies. Thus the conundrum, we either defend our ally and get destroyed but maintain our reputation, or not defend our ally and watch as our reputation sinks even lower.

To me the question becomes even more simple, do we have a plan in the future to stop the Initative? If not we might as well join FAN now, because if no long term strategy exists for GOLD fighting off T.I. we will eventually be destroyed or consumed by them. If, however, a plan exists to take on the Initiative in the future we should then stayout of the fight.

Let me emphasize this point: T.I. will come after us. Inevitably, once we reach a certain strength and threat range we will get an ultimatum, accept the yoke of the NPO (which some very well may advocate for) or we will be destroyed. The only third option I see to this eventual problem is fighting the Initiative in GW4. However, that option is quickly fading.

In short, I ask the GOLD leadership and all GOLD members to consider our position in relation to the Initative and consider, in light of recent events, what path we wish GOLD to take in the coming days.

“Do we have any more options?? Get close to NADC and that means we're gettin close to GUARD, get closer to IRON and we're getting closer to WUT. Catch 22

What other alliances are there that we have good relations with?” TomBum
