I have been graciously donated server space that is on a shared 100 megabit Internet connection (The owner wishes to remain anonymous)! Mr. Green I have been allocated ports 6000 - 6050 for the use of BZFS servers! Lag is extremely low - in the 50ms to 200ms range because of this blazing fast connection. And what's best, I get full control of what's running because I do not need to ask someone else to start it for me!
With all good things, comes a requirement: I must give Planet MoFo admins, cops, and hidden (MoFo.Admin, MoFo.Cop, and MoFo.Hidden) groups jurisdiction on all servers I set-up. Other than that I pretty much "own" it.
Important: I am now using bz.bpa.nu instead of bzflag.bpa.nu because it's shorter and seems more rememberable.
I also have a wish list that is directly related to this server (in order of importance). If you see something that you can help with please contact me...
* Work on a BZFS portal. So far I have a working base (a plugin) and I'm working with that and MySQL databases.
* When MasterBot is operational, use it.
* Get a real domain name.
I decided, since I have 50 ports to work with, that I can give out space to others (The People's Server). This is great for those who don't want to dive right into hosting or just want a great connection. Below each section of ports is described for their purposes (please read before asking).
* 6000 - 6004: An admin upload server and a wiki map (when the "BZFS portal" is done).
* 6005- 6009: Rotational. If you do not want to be placed on the server-for-all (see below) I can place you on a rotational. But, space is limited. Only 6 maps/port and 2 hours each. If I feel that a map isn't generating traffic I may remove it to give space to others.
* 6010 - 6019: My use, I can run my own maps, someone else's map, or even let someone use one of my ports on a temporary basis.
* 6020 - 6045: Reserved ports, most likely for friends or for others that I feel can use permanent hosting
* 6046 - 6050: A "server-for-all" on a first-come, first-serve basis. Here's how it works:
To Sign-Up: You post a message in the "Request Hosting Here" sticky requesting hosting. Send (through private message) me the configuration file, map, and anything else I might need. Once it is started you are guaranteed two weeks of hosting (unless something bad happens, natural disaster, my host doesn't pay that month, server reboot, etc...). At that time I will also post to the "Request Hosting Here" sticky with a reply saying what the server name, it's port, and when it started hosting.
How Your Serving Time Ends: In order to truly make it a "server-for-all" a time must come when it is someone else's turn. After the two weeks are over hosting may stop for another person to get a turn. The person who has been hosted consecutively for the longest is the next person to get replaced when another person requests hosting. They may request more hosting right away, but if all ports are filled up with less than 2 weeks of hosting, you must wait. Example: Let's say John and Jill both have been hosting for 2 weeks and 3 weeks, consecutively. If Bob comes along and requests hosting Jill will not be able to host (at the moment) anymore. Jill can come right back and request hosting, but she will not get any until the person with the longest consecutive time has passed two weeks.
Attention: Hosting can be abused! If for some reason I fill that something should not be hosted I can refuse to host or may even edit the configuration file! Also, damaging the reputation of bzflag.bpa.nu (like, going on a banning spree for no reason, or /kill'ing people for no reason, or just plain harassment, etc...) will get your server immediately pulled!
I am currently not taking any submissions for hosting at the moment! I have some stuff to do first, but it's coming... soon...
Let's make this opportunity turn into something great!
