info: Welcome to HostGator Live Chat! You are now chatting with 'JeanKarlo'
JeanKarlo: Welcome to HostGator, how may I assist you?
Jack Heskett: Hey, the dedicated IPs on my account aren't working. I can ping the main IP, but the dedicated aren't.
Jack Heskett: Pinging 70.85.217.18 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 70.85.217.18: bytes=32 time=129ms TTL=52 Reply from 70.85.217.18: bytes=32 time=134ms TTL=52 Reply from 70.85.217.18: bytes=32 time=130ms TTL=52 Reply from 70.85.217.18: bytes=32 time=129ms TTL=52 Ping statistics for 70.85.217.18: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Jack Heskett: thats the main ip, but .22 isn't responding to any ping. how can i resolve this?
Jack Heskett: I have checked and ipaliases is up and running
Jack Heskett: no dedicated ips are working, only the main shared
Jack Heskett: it's like they aren't even there... O.o
JeanKarlo: What is your primary domain name?
Jack Heskett: tribalhost.info / 70.85.217.18
Jack Heskett: / tribal.tribalhost.info
JeanKarlo: Please wait while I check.
Jack Heskett: O.o
Jack Heskett: when i restart ipaliases via ssh it says: Shutting down eth0:4 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address
JeanKarlo: One moment please.
Jack Heskett: i think this is the problem
Jack Heskett: ok...
JeanKarlo: Is it okay for me to request a reboot?
Jack Heskett: well, i'd prefer not to because i have some shoutcast running, sorry.
Jack Heskett: is it essential?
JeanKarlo: That's fine... let me advise a system administrator.
JeanKarlo: One moment please.
Jack Heskett: okay, thanks, sorry.
JeanKarlo: Sure... let me check with the admin first & then perhaps the reboot.
Jack Heskett: well, I'm afraid that I can't allow it to be rebooted at this time, Will have to talk to the other admins. but surely a reboot must be avoidable, its only an IP issue, which looks like those ips don't actually belong to us anymore...
JeanKarlo: What is your SSH port?
Jack Heskett: 6187
Jack Heskett: you may not be able to get in, it has a lot of restrictions, if so I can add you to apf's allow which should allow you access
JeanKarlo: Not to worry the administrator is already in
Jack Heskett: great
JeanKarlo: Please test the connection via PING.
Jack Heskett: okay
Jack Heskett: request timed out
Jack Heskett: Shutting down eth0:4 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address [FAILED] UnRouting 70.85.217.22 SIOCDELRT: No such device

JeanKarlo: semget: No space left on device
Jack Heskett: O.o
Jack Heskett: what does that mean?
JeanKarlo: It means that Apache ran out of semaphores (i.e shared memory)
Jack Heskett: okay, but how is that connected with the IP issue
Jack Heskett: because i believe the issue is that those IPs no longer belong to us, so you may of accidently unassigned them from us or assigned them to another customer?
JeanKarlo: Your Apache Service was down because of that and so the server was not responding.
Jack Heskett: yes we know, we don't use apache, thats not the servers purpose
Jack Heskett: but the ping should still work, the ips should still work. for example you can go :2086 on the main shared ip, but not .22 because of that error i showed you earlier when i type: service ipaliases restart
JeanKarlo: Yes... the administrator is still working on all the assigned IP Addresses.
Jack Heskett: okay. thanks.
Jack Heskett: could you please put apache back? I don't want it up, im not using the dedicated ip for that purposes, there is a reason why it was down.
Jack Heskett: it was a target of dos attacks, and as we didn't need it, we shut it down...
JeanKarlo: Please test the connection with PING.
Jack Heskett: works now..
JeanKarlo: Apache has also been disabled once again.
Jack Heskett: and apache is down. :) fantastic!!
Jack Heskett: thank you very very very much
JeanKarlo: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Jack Heskett: I think thats it, thanks a lot.
