Coldplay - The Mad Scientist Liner Notes
The Mad Scientist is from the point of view of Felix Hoenikker, and he is looking back at his final creation, Ice-9. His greatest legacy, far more explosive than the atomic bomb, was his gift of Ice-9 to the world. Felix's entire life was secluded, where he cared nothing about his wife or children, and only for his work. The result of his love for science was Ice-9, which explains why he needs it so much. Felix justifies neglecting his family by seeing only the progress he made with Ice-9, and puts all his hopes and dreams on it. Perhaps finally realizing his mistakes, Felix parts with Ice-9, gives it to his children, and dies.
System of a Down - Science & Spirit Liner Notes
Observing the events of Cat's Cradle, this song speaks of man's failure to see how omniscient spirit is. Felix invented his atom bomb and Ice-9, without regard to how much destruction they could bring. He misses the spirit of a human, becoming only a machine that invents. In the end, this spiritless man's inventions appropriately cause the loss of the world's souls. Science, at that points, fails Mother Earth.
Coldplay - The Mad Scientist
Come up to meet you, tell you Im sorry
You dont know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets, and ask me your questions
Oh lets go back to the start
Running in circles, coming up tails
Heads on a silence apart
Nobody said it was easy
Oh its such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said that it would be this hard
Oh take me back to the start
I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling your puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing our tails
Coming back as we are
Nobody said it was easy
Oh its such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
Im going back to the start
Oh ooh ooh ooh ooh ohh (x4)
System of a Down - Science and Spirit
Making two possibilities a reality
prediting the future of things we all know
fighting off the diseased programming
of centuries, centuries, centuries, centuries
Science fails to recognise the single most
potent element of human existence
letting the reigns go to the unfolding
is faith, faith, faith, faith
Science has failed our world
science has failed our mother earth
